Not meeting our expectations for our body. I know we all think, thought, etc....that this venture would be a LOT easier.....but the reality is that we all are the one at the dance alone......we never are quite satisfied with how our body looks or how our bodybuilding goal was never attained. Like Maldorf said in another thread, you MUST come to grips with how you look and LOVE it.......ACCEPT it......you are YOU and no one else.........so do your best and rejoice............because there are a lot of peeps hurtin in this world.

Couldnt have said that better. Only thing that I might elaborate is the fact that sometimes our drive to reach our goals can become self destructive. The trick for us is to realize soon enough what we are doing to ourselves and put a stop to it ASAP. Weather it endangers our mental or physical health, in order to live a happy life you need to put those feelings to rest.

Phil,
If you had to live your bodybuilding life over again, what would you change?

That is a question I have always wanted to ask Phil.

Great post Phil and excellent point Maldorf! I think alot of us are not happy with the way we look because the problem is we compare ourselves next to a Pro and we think we can become like a Pro but we are not. It's genetics and hard work and determination.

I just want to be healthy now since hitting 30 few years ago. I'm not trying to get bigger , but smaller. I just don't want to have damn aches and pains all the time and loos as much weight as possible so my knees feel better and my sleep apnea improves.

If I ever get weight down and bodyfat down I will just enter a natty local show if I ever get a chance with whatever weight I look good at.

Right now around 250, 20% bdf at 5 9'. Figure I want to stay around 220-225 all year around 10-12% bdf% if I could and if trying to get in super low bodyfat for the summer for the extra few months or maybe a show get down to about 210.

I'm really struggling trying to keep the weight down below 240. When I start really going down I get hurt or something. It sucks...

Excellent point, thank you for this Phil. Speaks volumes to me as I am sure it does to everyone in this sport. The constant drive to succeed and to reach new levels and to improve on this, that, or the other, it can drive you mad. Learning to stay grounded and realistic is important. I can only hope that I can learn how to do that at some point soon.

Lean and mean is the more healthy way for most people...if everything is right...however, if there's certain people out there with the genetics/Plain potential of 'what ever they needed' and that's their job for the time being, so be it....but from the title, I had porn in the back of my mind.....We're all finished once the right test levels are there and the cpu viewing is private lol.

Sorry if I messed the thread up and feel free to let me know...I'm all ears.

This thread speaks right to me. I am never happy with the size of this or that... I spend more time worrying about physical things than I do important things sometimes.

To put it in perspective, I am lucky this is the worry I have. So many unfortunate people out there and I worry about really, pretty superficial stuff.

I am gonna make it a goal of mine to start enjoying the important things more in my life and try to be happy with the gains I have made.

Thanks Phil for this little tidbit of wisdom!

i feellike ive been mind raped......someones fuckin with me ......that is myexavct menality.....nothings ever good enough

I am one of the smallest guys here and have done more damage to my health to get this pathetic size...

I know I will never even look decent and will never be happy

Well, don't go out like that....take second(assuming it's sober) and look back...Who you putting on a show for...do they even care...Hell, I'm gonna go eat a big ass piece of chicken, fill myself up and drink some olive oil/brocli mix:eek:

This thread speaks to almost everybody on this board at one point in there lives. This journey we call life is so difficult all in all, and the first step to be able to manage life is to be able to accept yourself for who you are and be happy with it.
We are all made different and thats what makes this world so special is the diversity between every person. accept who you are and understand yourself

I wish I could...

I have some killer internal demons, I posted about them in the counseling forum trying to help a poster who struggled with what he saw in the mirror.

Everyone has to face it but to different degrees.

Good question

Phil,
If you had to live your bodybuilding life over again, what would you change?

bodybuilding life I would do nothing over........I feel like I put the least amount of effort possible to get the best results I could.......My real life, well, I would change a lot........BUT, I would not change anything about the last 4 years when I met my wife.

I like that. A more balanced healthy approach. It really is a disappointment that this sport is so unhealthy. Because when you first start, that's all it's about.
Perfect example here for you. I'm thinking of using only low doses or clean altogether. I enjoy the sport more when striving for a healthy body. But I'm tempted to give it one last " big cycle" just to see how it goes. Now there's that slippery slope again.:p

I fight this everyday just like you do. Its a tough one to really break once you get caught up into it. I let it go for some time and I'm ok with myself...then that time comes when for some reason I get caught up again about not being big enough. Just takes time to really accept it though i guess

After 8 shoulder surgeries and 1 hernia surgery, the fact that I am back to training with ABSOLUTELY ZERO PAIN is a blessing in its own. And the cherry on top of the sundae is that my physique is the best its ever been.

Im happy

I just need a little more muscle and less fat. Other than that, Im GTG!
