STRECHING FOR BODYBUILDING. YES OR NO?

I didn't realize Rich was this flexible. This inspires me to be more flexible. The guy was huge and managed to be much more flexible than I ever was. Good balance too!

I agree with the thread, stretching helps a lot and like AShop said, especially important as you get older. I can attest that it has helped my injuries (chronic arthritis in delt) in a major way and increased flexability. ANd yes, it takes 5min, so why not?
Now as for stretching during a workout static stretching is prohibited. Your muscle fibers are sending contractile proteins (mycin and Actin) across the cells to SHORTEN the muscle when lifting. Stretching (LENGTHENING) will confuse the body and cause issues in you lifts and maximum performance. In this case, during workouts, dynamic stretching is much better and recommended.

It’s funny at 27 or 37 even the most important thing to me was lifting and how much I could lift and how big I could get. Now lifting, cardio and stretching are all equally important to me.

So in an eccentric movement, that`s stretching? That`s just false and scientifically wrong in every way. When the muscle is under load, concentric or eccentric, it doesn`t matter, actin and myosin are engaged. Now if you wanna let the lat pull down bar go all the way up and its pulling you up, muscles not engaged, THEN you are stretching the muscle.

I only do DC style stretching with load and at the end.
