:food:smil:DI can say it in 1 word "Sashimi"
Japanese for raw fish.. What better protien than Fish. I eat a seafood/veggie only diet.. And sometimes when I'm feeling low on energy My body just knows it needs protien. I either go to my local Thai/Sushi restaurant and chow down on the all you can eat Sashimi or go to my local suppermarket and get about a pound of fresh Tuna or Salmon and chow it down with some Siracha hot sauce ,,And then I Feel Great.. Of course the restaurant owner looks kinda bummed after I eat up his kids college savings. "SASHIMI" the perfect protien Source:D:food:smil

You know I was shocked yesterday to hear that their are 40 thousand (40 thousand!!!) people in Japan that are over 100 years old......thats absolutely amazing.

And its predomantly because of their diet. (And hey maybe its the natto)

My brother and I have always had an aversion to fish/seafood....I cannot even stand the smell of a sushi restraurant walking past it....starts the gag reflex. Ive always wanted to somehow get fish into my diet and at various times ive tried to eat it and I just cannot get past that fishy smell and taste (2 bites and im usually out of the game).

From many people who said "try this, it doesnt have the fishy smell taste" Ive tried

swordfish (awful)
mahi mahi I believe and just couldnt do it.
Salmon (forget about it---fish smell and taste galore)

I can get down a tuna fish sandwhich if its made right.
I can get down the large peices of fresh shrimp (fresh) if i get alot of cocktail sauce on it.
I can eat some forms of clam chowder usually Snows (LOL)
Lobster Ive gotten down if it has some butter on it.
Some kind of sushi that tasted a little bit like cornbeef...the name eludes me....that was at least edible to me.

Im open to any and all suggestions on this as I am determined to get into some kind of seafood on a regular basis that I can get down the hatch. Throw some suggestions out there and Ill give it a go.

Hi DC,
im from portugal and here we have have 100 ways to cook codfish. Some arent good for our purpose but some others are ok.

Please try it and im sure you will love :)

Regards

I HAVE THE EXACT SAME REACTION DOGGCRAPP. maybe cuz i used to eat so much tuna.
but at last the texas da brazil restraunt has a smoked salomon that really is good and did not tast fishy at all. its on there salad bar all you can eat. but at 55 bucks a plate i dont eat there much.

the wife swears raw tuna has no taste. i aint trying it though.

I hated fish as a child.. Now i try to include it in one meal a day... Mr. Doggcrapp, try Codd Fish.. It has a nice plain buttery taste.. Requires minimal seasoning.. Light Olive oil, garlic and maybe lemon pepper seasoning.. If it is super fresh then it will have no fish taste at all.. Another bonus is that it is always wild caught from Alaska.. I have never seen farm raised Codd..

Seared tuna is another good choice.. Typically just needs a wasabi paste and soy sauce mix for dipping/and or marinade..

Looks like codfish is the next thing to try.

IM going in, someone cover me....or at least have a bucket near

Snow or King crab legs with melted butter and a little salt. Not the healthy choice but tastes better than any other seafood

Try a monk fish stuffed with egg whites..

Not always the case but if there is a strong fishy smell the fish isn't fresh. Fifteen years ago, when I met my wife, you wouldn't have gotten me to try any type of sushi or sashemi. Her mother, a little Japanese woman, made some for me, I ate it up, literally and figuratively.

Believe me when I tell you I'm not a fish fan, don't care for Tilapia, Salmon (the fishiest of all tasting) and I can't even look at a can of tuna. However, I can eat the shit out of Seared Tuna, and most anything at a FRESH sushi restaurant....yellowtail, smoke salmon, tekka maki, ....

My suggestion is to go to the Outback Steakhouse, get the small portion of the Ahi Tuna appetizer. The orange sauce that comes with it enhances it, but if you can't eat it, and believe me there is no fishy smell or taste, then by all means abandon your quest of eating fish. This particular dish, rivals some of the best sushi houses I've ever been to.

Im going to try this too

Tkav1980 I want to try eating it at a restraurant first and then if thats a success and i can get it down then Ill attempt it at home.

I really think you will love seared tuna, like others have stated. Its fucking delicious. Either with straight wasabi, or any variety of dressings that different restaurants/chefs use for tuna.

The key for you will probably very thinly sliced at first and the right combination of dressing that goes with your taste. BUT I dont see how you wouldnt become addicted to it. Trust me big D, seared tuna is #1.

Fish, whether it's raw or cooked is a great source of protein. You can get your healthy fats from fatty fish such as tuna, mackeral, salmon, etc. However, there is one downside to eating fish all the time which is the mercury levels found in predatory fish. This is a fact. My sister's father in law used to eat nothing but fish and chicken and recently had his mercury levels tested when he went in to get a blood test. He had mercury poisoning and it took him some time to recover from it. I believe that eating a variety or protein sources is best.

OMG!

Try some Yellow Tail Tuna...best if marinated and smoked/BBQ'd

Have a few Sake bombers first and then try some tuna sashimi(put a dab of wasabi and lite soy sauce on). My wife used to be the same way and now we have sushi/sashimi at least a couple times a week(don't do the sake bombers anymore though). If it is good quality it definitely will not smell like fish and really has no fish taste to it all; just melts in your mouth.

Fortunately for me, I can eat any and all kinds of seafood/fish. You on the coast are very fortunate for fresh seafood...living in Chicago we can get our hands on fresh king salmon etc. from Lake MI. That said, I grill cedar plank salmon and prepare fish in just about any manner but fish is fish. Some smell more fishy than others.

The problem also living in the midwest, is when trying to buy yellowtail etc. is the cost...doesn't come cheap. Even Tilapia, which I buy a lot of, is somewhat pricey.

Nevertheless, I hope you find something that you can enjoy D...as shared above, the best way to go is finding the freshest Tuna and have it seared with some wabashi...killer. The fresher the fish, the less likely you'll have to deal with any "fishiness".

CANNED TUNA AND BBQ SAUSE TASTES LIKE PULLED PORK.
