This was an email I got the other day and it is so true.

THOSE BORN 1920-1979

TO ALL THE KIDS WHO SURVIVED the 1930's, 40's, 50's, 60's and 70's!!

First, we survived being born to mothers who smoked and/or drank while they were pregnant.

They took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing, tuna from a can, and didn't get tested for diabetes.

Then after that trauma, we were put to sleep on our tummies in baby cribs covered with bright colored lead-based paints.

We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, doors or cabinets and when we rode our bikes, we had no helmets, not to mention, the risks we took hitchhiking

As infants &children, we would ride in cars with no car seats, booster seats, seat belts or air bags

Riding in the back of a pick up on a warm day was always a special treat.

We drank water from the garden hose and NOT from a bottle.

We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle and NO ONE actually died from this.

We ate cupcakes, white bread and real butter and drank Kool-aid made with sugar, but we weren't overweight because,
WE WERE ALWAYS OUTSIDE PLAYING!

We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the streetlights came on.

No one was able to reach us all day.And we were O.K.

We would spend hours building our go-carts out of scraps and then ride down the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes After running into the bushes a few times, we learned to solve the problem.

We did not have Playstations, Nintendo's, X-boxes, no video games at all, no 150 channels on cable, no video movies or DVD's, no surround-sound or CD's, no cell phones, no personal computer! s, no Internet or chat rooms.......
WE HAD FRIENDS and we went outside and found them!

We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there were no lawsuits from these accidents.

We ate worms and mud pies made from dirt, and the worms did not live in us forever.

We were given BB guns for our 10th birthdays, made up games with sticks and tennis balls and, although we were told it would happen, we did not poke out very many eyes.

We rode bikes or walked to a friend's house and knocked on the door or rang the bell, or just walked in and talked to them!

Little League had tryouts and not everyone made the team. Those who didn't had to learn to deal with disappointment. Imagine that!!

The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of. They actually sided with the law!

These generations have produced some of the best risk-takers, problem solvers and inventors ever!

The past 50 years have been an explosion of innovation and new ideas.

We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned HOW TO DEAL WITH IT ALL!

If YOU are one of them CONGRATULATIONS!

You might want to share this with others who have had the luck to grow up as kids, before the lawyers and the government regulated so much of our lives for our own good .

While you are at it, forward it to your kids so they will know how brave (and lucky) their parents were.

Kind of makes you want to run through the house with scissors, doesn't it?!

The quote of the month is by Jay Leno:

'With hurricanes, tornados, fires out of control, mud slides, flooding, severe thunderstorms tearing up the country from one end to another, and with the threat of bird flu and terrorist attacks, are we sure this is a good time to take God out of the Pledge of Allegiance?'

For those that prefer to think that God is not watching over us...forget you read or saw this.

Good post. It brings back a lot of good memories. Ive thought about these things quite a bit lately, especially now that i have a little one. It scares me and saddens me to see how things have turned out the past 10-20 yrs.

I've seen this one, Very good post......Those were the days............:p

WOW

I forgot how much different my childhood was, but you're right that was it.

Awesome Post

What a different world it is today. My wife and I were talking the other day about how when we were kids, we would be GONE ALL DAY just like we all did.

What a different world today.

So tru you know I lived in the country growing up riding my blike for miles all day to my favorite fishing hole.Going in the woods w/my 22 and shooting coons.opposums,or squirrels, finding snakes and other creatures by myself and loved my childhood.I bring my kids up in the country and MY BOYS won't go in the woods cause "all the ticks"LOL!Although my little princess loves every bug and snake I can find

When I was growing up we would play in the woods for hours. And this was in the middle of the City! It's all built up now.

Ah! The good old days.

This all being said, we are fighting a limited (Vietnam) war. Some lessons will be learned over and over.
" drop one large bomb on the bad guys, wait a month and crop dust with grass seed "

My parents beat my butt when I did something wrong and deserved
every bit of it. If they were to tell me I was getting a (TIME OUT) I'm sure
I would of laughed at them, I was a rotten little bastard.
And this lead paint thing, through my childhood into my teens I could'nt
tell you how many lead sinkers I chewed on while fishing.
And I'm still kickin at 51.

there was the Atari 2600 and the Commodore64 and before that there was shortwave radio..anyways though don't envy these kids today that are on a leash with these damn cell phones..when i was a kid i'd disappear all day and just make it home by evening..and when I was a teen i can't imagine what that would be like if your parents could buzz you anytime of nite!..i don't see how the kids today deal with that shit..

I would like to post this on my website's www.ganggreek.com blog can I have permission or can you direct me to where I can get permission.
thanks and great post this really hits home.

I'm glad I grew up then.
A lot of kids now are dull, medicated, iPods with legs.

Never locked the house when we left home and we lived in the city, left the keys in the car ignition when we shoped, hell even left the kids in the car.... summer in Texas at that. Ate dinner together almost every night. OMG even had to walk to school. If we got paddled at school, we got another if the old man found out. Built forts in the back yard. Mom cooked, wasn't much fast food. Mowed yards and found coke bottles for money. Remember coke bottles. Was supposed to waite 1 hour after eating before we went swimming. Hell we ate while swimming, ain't got a cramp yet. Wernt no swim trunks just cut offs. Never ever back talked a grown up. Remember sonic booms, would rattle the pictures on the walls. Had men bring bread or milk right to your door.Women were told breast milk was not as good as cows milk for their babies.Guess thats why I like.....never mind. What a bunch of bull. Only had 2 or 3 kinds of tennis shoes to chose from. If we skipped school we got suspended for three days. I ain't figured that one out yet. At my school we were told there was enough oil in the ground to last 100's of years.Yea right. Very very few people got divorced. Good thread. Oh yea I almost forgot. If you lifted weights you would get muscle bound and coukdn't move. If you could press your weight over your head you were considered strong.
