Tibia Repair Options

This one is for all you rocket scientists out there. Most of you know about my bad accident four years ago that busted about 1/2 my body when I rammed my 4x4 F250 PowerStroke off a 30ft cliff at 70mph and rammed a concrete wall no seat belt or airbag... hmmm I should post pics.. .yeahhhh thhhhat's the ticket! (just fyi... can you believe I just got over totalling my Crotch Rocket on July 30 a mo ago? baaaad road rash on me and a spiral break of the left humorous on my wife requiring surgery... bracket and screws). Ok I grew up in Mont and Evil Kneavel was a god to us. Our family used to meet him out at the TT Tracks on race weekend.. I think most of my childhood friends are prolly dead by now if they're still like me lol

Anyway... 4 years later after the big one... I develop some swelling in my ankle when I over use it ... standing/walking 12hrs at work no break. So I go in on the 22nd of this month and have them remove the bracket, screws, and battery from my right ankle. To give you an idea... the right fibula shattered and the left tibia ejected out of the ankle. I under went an experimental surgery called OP1 Synthetic... 8th in the nation to get it... it didn't work... not because the experiment was a failure.. there was just too much damage... ok another experiment.. it worked... they took a slice of hip bone and fused the fibula into the tibia, bracket/screws and a battery... then pre-centrifuged my blood to get the growth factors out.. it's a jel and pasted it over the injured bone... yeah! a battery in my leg that fed current to the shattered area causing the bone to heal faster... it all fucking worked!!!!!! Really... if I didn't tell you about it you'd never know in the gym I was laying in a hospital 50/50 dying and 1/2 body broke... I walk normal and most scars are completely hid... even have a titanium bar in my right femor as it broke in 1/2.

So what's my complaint? The Surgeon took out all the metal that was bothering me at the ankle now that I'm healed but said the majority of the pain was being caused by developing arthritis in the end of the tibia because it ejected out of the ankle and smashed into the floor board of the truck. The first surgeon wanted the ankle cut off immedietly but when I was finally concious I wouldn't give him permission... the other surgeons wanted the whole damn thing fused at a 90deg angle... it would end all my pain.... but!!!! I told them I'm too young .. 45yrs and like waaaaaaaaay too damn good looking and said no. I have a rep ya know *wink*

Ok the arthritis... in the end of my tibia... from my research it seems they can resurface it to fix it... I will talk to them about it on the fifth of Sept when my stitches come out... but hmmmmm are there other things I can do instead or also? HGH? what'cha think?

I know some of you were in pro sports or suffered massive injuries or live in other countries where experimental stuff may be going on... let me know.

As I began reading this storm, I couldn't help but think you were joking when you said "remove the battery from my leg." Holy crap! You really did have a battery in your leg?!?!?!? Wow! hahaha

Seriously, I must go back and do a search on your threads. Sorry to hear about the accident. Glad to hear your walking though and able to lift weights again.
It sounds like you've finally found a good surgeon, and in my experience there are some really good surgeons and some really bad ones. I was lucky to have had some friends who were orthos, and when I tore my pec and none of them had ever reattached one, then it was simply a matter of asking who would be the best person to help me. So I had to go see the Houston Astros surgeon. My deal was very minor compared to yours. I think it will just require asking lots of questions, finding out who is the best person for the job, and staying informed of new procedures that could help you. This stuff has changed so much in just the last 5 years. Keep us posted!

You can always try some alflutop, man. The shit worked wonders for me. 6 months ago I could barely walk up stairs and now I'm doing hardcore mma training. I'm sure gh would help ya too, but I can't ever seem to afford it.

I just finished my 1st round of aflutop. It worked wonders, I have a torn labrium, to much baseball throwing. I still feel pain fom time to time but I can sleep on that side now which is a big improvement.

Most of the bone in my lower right leg came from someone else, all the various metal parts are mine bought and paid for. They used the electromagnetic field generator on me too, I wore it for 3 months to get the bone grafts to take.

I have no range of motion since the ankle is fused by plates on the side and a rod that comes up from the heel and ends below the knee. I have to block up my heels to squat and I walk like Quasimodo barefooted. But I can still train, and my legs are bigger than they have ever been before so I don't whine too much.

Like you, I had docs wanting to cut off the leg, but I wouldn't go for it. LOL.....I should have sent those doctors tickets to my last show so they could see what they wanted to lop off. I'd like to see those guys do half of what I do with that leg in the gym.

Damn bro... you took away my complaint lol. Nobody can tell the extensive damage I caused. I walk normal... and this is after a shattered fib and ejected the tibia, busted fem... wow all I got left is arthritis lol I feel your pain though bro.

You know what really takes the ticket? 2 x's I spent 6 mo's in the wheel chair from this accident... ok? I had to sleep in my tanning bed for 2 mo's so that I could lift my body up by the hood to turn and pee in a jar right? Ok, my wife is sitting next to me and is crying non stop, I felt for her and said "honey at least I'm alive right?" bitch " that's not why I'm crying, you're legs are shrinking"

They were 28" and was trying to do a comp the next year plus I was in the Special Forces Reserve... soooo it's not that I almost died that bothered her, she was losing her show piece and possibly thinking I'd walk all messed up if I ever could walk at the time and she'd be embarrassed. How's that for shallow?

We are divorced now 'course. I was getting close to the end of my med leave and was still in the wheel chair and Surgeon said it would be possibly another 6 mo's before I could go to work. My CO would then put me on LTD and I'd get 60% of my pay. So to show them wrong, I shot my Tren up and 4 weeks later I could walk, another two I was back at work.... ok not at 100% but I made it. But anyway, when she saw out of the blue I could walk, she said she looked in my eyes and saw that I learned nothing and was more dangerous than ever now and said "I want a divorce, you'll be dead in a year and I can't watch you die again" end of story.
