My best friend is doing a show in about 2 months..his first and wants me to help him pick out some posing music and some soundbites to accompany it. Well honestly I have alot of ideas but ZERO experience competing YET so dont really know what to tell him.

Any Ideas or tips...links to some good examples

THANKS
RJ

haha Ahhh shit nobody? lol ...gunna check some youtube's but yea he is really nervous so im goin to the show with him and helpin him prep..out to be a good experience for me to see what goes on backstage since i plan on competing as soon as possible:)

depends on his level of experience. The less experienced, the simpler the routine should be. I can tell you, that the judges are usually nodding off, talking to each other, or generally just not paying attention during posing routines, so not to worry about being judged.

Plenty of routines on You Tube, and very inspirational. Lee Labrada, Francis Benefato, Frank Zane or bigger guys Mike Francois, Kevin Levrone, Shawn Ray....once you there you get 100`s of links.:)
My favourite posing routines: Lee Labrada

You are dead on with this one Tflexxin.

If it's his first show, My advice for you're buddy RonJon would be for him to get the mandatorys down. Sound bites and fancy routines are more appreciated and easier to do with higher levels and experience.

That being said think of a posing routine as an opera. There should be an introduction, a theme, the body of work, and finally the conclusion.

Thanks alot guys...yea he has a posing coach and has been working with her for a number of months. Right now he is REALLY more needing help coming up with the type of music and what kind (and how to) implement sound bites or movie clips or whatever into it...

I had to sort thorugh alot of crap to figure out my own routine lol. So heres what I decided from my own contest and seeing others routines. keep in mind this was an amateur contest so this is all assuming he is in npc or something.

- like previously stated, he should keep it short..definately under a minute. The longer routines get the judges and audiences bored after awhile. BEcause they have to watch EVERYONES routines.

- I would suggest he chooses a song based on how he looks. You probly know..is he the lean slim Frank Zane type or more bulky and massive? Ive seen some ood routines with classical type music or soundtrack music for the lean types. If he has some thick muscles and can make them really pop out then something more along the lines of hard rock or rap would be fun for the audience to watch. I remember my favorite routine was one where it started out playing lil waynes "fireman" in the beginning and then after the beginning part jumped right into "gaurded" by disturbed and hit some powerfull poses. It was entertaining and kindof different.

-I would say sound bites or movie clips would be kindof cheesy for an amateur show personally. Just get in and get out Id say

- he also needs to consider if he will walk out onto the stage before or after the song begins to get his timing right.

- i have no idea what he looks like, so here are some songs I always thought would be good for posing routines:
danzig (mother), nonpoint 9the same), michael jackson (dirty diana), kid rock (bawitdaba), seether (gasoline), lil wayne (fireman), young joc (its goin down), slipknot (before I forget), journey (seperate ways), firewind (fire and the fury), van halen (aint talkin bout love)

Awesome thanks bro!!!

...my bro has more of a classical look smaller but proportionate Zane type. He was telling me about wanting to come out to some disturbed with the song starting with a soundbite from the movie 300???

..his posing coach told him to request coming through the audience..

THOUGHTS?

Pose from the toes, Emeric is the guy to answer this question he gave my good advice in another thread regards breathing. Take a deep breath in then hit the pose letting small breaths out through your teeth so you look like you are smiling. I first woke up to the importance of posing when I stood on a national stage. The guys were nearly spitting they were hitting poses that hard.

Make sure its music he can move to and enjoy or inspires him. Also don't forget backup copy. You never know and don't need stress show day, I bring two of nearly everything and keep them separate to avoid the unexpected.
