Here are 2 pics – the first is me at 4 weeks out from my contest last year (August), and the second is me at 4 weeks out from my contest this year (April, 9 months later). I'm about 10-12 pound heavier this year. Obviously I’ve made some pretty solid improvements, but I have a lot more that I’d like to make this coming offseason before I step onstage again in 2010.

I need more mass all over, but especially in my arms and delts. My chest could use a bit more size too, but I think my arms and delts are the weakest links at this point.

This past offseason I trained each body part once every 5 days or so, and this coming offseason I’m going to be experimenting with training each bodypart twice every week (every 3-4 days).

I’ll have to cut back slightly on volume to make up for this increase in frequency, but I think the potential for greater results warrants the experiment.

If I find after a couple months that the frequency is too high, I’ll go back to the split I used last year, since it obviously produces great gains as well.

I’ll be posting more info about my training, exercise selection, etc. as I get into the offseason training. I’ll probably be posting more Youtube videos as well – I’d like to see if I can eventually deadlift 585 for 8 later this year, and squat 545 for 10-12.

I’m currently about 193 pounds after a few low carb days, and started this prep at 225 pound or so. I would imagine I’ll be onstage around 188-190. This coming offseason I’ll probably get up to 235-240, then if everything goes well compete at closer to the light heavyweight limit next year (198). Eventually I’ll probably need to be a heavyweight to fill out my frame, but that’s at least a few years away. The heavyweight class goes from 198.25 to 225.25, and I think I’ll probably look best at around 210 or so.

All comments and constructive criticism is welcome.

Wow Shelby! What a difference, you work hard in the off season and it shows.
 
Shelby, from looking at both pics...you have put on overall muscle mass over the past couple of years, especially with the legs! Productive offseasons and with smart dieting seem to really be paying off. Awesome changes from year to year, now only imagine the possibilites with another muscle producing offseason! Hats off and as you said time bring up any lagging body parts which you will get the job done. Finish strong with this prep which I know you will and great job!
 
WOW! BIIIG difference! Your arms have come a long way, but even just overall, you can see that extra weight! You look MUCH denser!

IMHO, id say arms is your weakpoint as well, but if you can mimic the improvements you made last yr, they wont stay that way!

And you legs, which werent even a problem last yr, seem to have improved just as much as your arms did! The shape is better and they look way more muscular this yr!

Way to go with the improvements. Very motivational for me, as im hoping to make some serious improvements this offseason as well!

Shelby, everytime I open a thread with your pictures it seems you are getting better and better in this sport, congrats...the quads have grown, you are looking great as usual.

I said in a past thread of yours that you looked much bigger this year, but damn! Nice.

Can I ask how old you are?

btw, heavy decline bench made massive improvements to my chest in a year. fyi.
 
Damn bro. Very solid improvements indeed! Chest back and arms are so mush denser now. Do you train arms on a separate day or with another bodypart? Keep up the good work...how tall are you? GoodLuck!

And I agree with DC too, your arms and quad sweep have progressed tremendously!!
