Who hunts deer? Who eats venison in their diet?

Has deer season opened near you? CA sucks for deer hunting (40 million people and 7 deer), but I’m still taking time off next week to try and refill the freezer as we’re getting low on venison. Used it in my chili tonight and I swear my body loves it!

Live in Virginia and hunt (deer, quail, turkey). I smoke a lot of my game meats as well as grill over open flame and sometimes cook in the crockpot / slow cooker. Also really love making a good game stew with real and fresh bone broth, veggies and meats. Autumn is just such a great season. The hunt is always on!

Enjoy brother

Nice bro! Rifle/Shotgun only or any archery? I have yet to bird hunt (well not since I was a kid) but would love to this year.

My coworkers give me a couple of deer each year (ground venison, tenderloins, steak, and roast) they kill them and drop them off at the processor near my house and I pick it up and pay for it, it's a lot of freaking meat..LOL
I love deer and eat it or grass fed beef everyday.

That’s awesome! My manager just moved from Louisville (I thought I read that you were in KY), and another friend co-worker lives there and apparently per them there’s good deer hunting in KY. Now we know your secret to all that size B-boy.

Big fan of wild game - I have a noticeable increase in the quality of my sleep (measurable) as well as "perceived" enhanced recovery times. Venison personally I haven't noticed a difference - not saying there isn't, perhaps it was the quality of the animal (Texas Farmed vs. wild).

Elk and Caribou have been my favorites by far.

Love eating it, but personally I’m an animal lover and don’t have an interest in killing one…. If someone else does and gives me the meat it will get devoured with a quickness.

Most of our gound meat come from deer , we have very liberal bag limits down here (8 per person) , typically my son and I limit out each year. We'll keep 8 tenderloins for frying and 4 roast a year and grind the rest. Once we fill the freezer we start giving it to friends that don't hunt. We don't trophy hunt at all as our area SUCKS for quality bucks and our deer are small with mature does in the 100-120lb range.

Its a great source of very lean quality meat and ground up give alot of options for cooking that are easy.

We also catch some hogs live and feed them out for a while before slaughtering , a steady diet of fruit and scraps for a month does wonders for killing the gamey taste.

I eat it often. I don’t hunt, my brother in law in KY is a big time hunter and always takes care of me. He’s actually bringing some up this weekend to restock the freezer

A guy in my neighborhood makes breakfast sausage with venison. Best damn breakfast sausage I've ever had.

I do not hunt. Not against it, just have better things to do at 4:00am. Hahaha. Sadly, I live in and area that urban sprawl is taking over. I'm seeing less and less wildlife.

Grew up hunting almost everything. As I got older I drifted away from hunting since I moved from the country to the suburbs. I’ve got 3 kids that love watching the deer come up right behind our house. I don’t think I will ever hunt again, but it def was a thrill and filled the freezer with lots of meat. I got a coworker that gets about 8 deer a year, & he will give me some if I ask.

I'm ok with Elk meat but Mule Deer I don't like the taste.

I hear White Tail is better tasting but I have never tried it. I only have Elk, Moose, and Mule Deer around here.

I'm not big into to hunting anymore but I still go just for a change of Scenery.

Az deer taste nasty. But elk are delicious. I haven’t been big game hunting in awhile, but I do a good amount of dove and quail. And the occasional javelina. Javelina tastes ok, but is really tough. About the only way to prepare it is in a slow cooker until it’s agreeable

I am from a deer hunting state, Pennsylvania. We hunt every year and always had deer meat. Back in the 70s and 80s, we could put our loaded rifles on a gun rack at the back windows of trucks.

Texas here, I hunt when I can. I have a good friend that goes all the time, so often tag along. Deer mostly, but I have taken down a water buffalo and an American bison before lol. You can get anything on these big properties out here

My wife and I bowhunt and crossbow hunt for deer every year since 1996.

I'm blessed she eagerly takes part in every step from field to freezer to table.

Right after this post we hit the sack with our alarm set at 3:15 am.

We have 5 days in the woods planned together .

Her favorite ladderstand spot hasn't been used yet this season. She does very well here this time of year for the last 3 seasons since we put up the ladderstand.

As long as she is warm and comfortable there are no complaints from here peeing on a buck scrape here and there.

We typically arrow 3 or 4 per season and give away 20 to 25% of our harvest to friends and acquaintances.

A quick photo this time last year. 20211230_084255.jpg 20201102_165735.jpg

I almost exclusively eat deer, elk, hogs, fish, and shrimp….i harvest it all my self

Elk chop with shrimp is hands down my favorite meal.

If you are in the Houston area check out the rainbow lodge..their elk chop with potato and cheese enchiladas and a nice glass of scotch is perfect
