Hiatus: attempt at staying lean while helping my pregnant fiancée with her body dysmorphia

What’s happening guys? Been a few months since I’ve been active, but for good reason. Around the beginning of September, I found out my fiancée was pregnant. Pretty excited about it and finally today found out we will be having a boy at the end of May/ beginning of June. Originally I wasn’t planning on changing anything with gear, training, and dieting but plans changed.

We’ll call my fiancée K, during the first trimester she had a lot of cravings and dealt with moderate sickness, typical pregnancy symptoms. During this time though K became very concerned about weigh gain and would constantly talk about how fat she was getting, it did not help that I was dieting down, K would constantly say she felt disgusted with herself whenever she’d eat. It got to the point where she wouldn’t eat or eat very little which would make her feel even more sick. During this time I felt it was appropriate to shift my focus away from bodybuilding temporarily and eat what she wanted to ensure K was able to function.

Fast forward to the second trimester, and she’s doing a lot better. From weeks 10 -> 20 K has actually lost half a lb (initially she gained 25lbs first 10 weeks). K has a much better image of the way she looks and she’s also feeling a lot better too.

During the first 12 weeks I went from 215lbs to 245lbs (very sloppy). Sadly I don’t have any pics because it wasn’t really on my mind. Definitely was a mental struggle because I felt like I was losing progress but at the same time I knew it was only temporary and K’s mental and physical health was more important. Currently I’m sitting at 220lbs, have continued training and dieting, and have been running only Test during this time to establish positive habits and make sure that I’m fully committed before I add stuff in. Really looking forward to seeing where I get to and also looking forward to being a positive role model for my son. Photo below is current physique

Don’t sweat it. You did the right thing. You’re young (I assume 🤷🏻‍♂️), just a bump in the road.

Plus a certain POS “Canadian” (if you could even call him that), is on his way out of office, it’s a time to eat and be happy 👍🏻

Also congratulations

Of course you'll be a role model for your children

I don't quite understand what this topic is about but maybe I'm just stupid
Nae man like i told you before, people post all kinds of stuff in here, look at it like a "life forum" like i wrote before on the old site i was on, we had an off topic page for everything not bodybuilding related like this. Men need to share shit and still claim "no homo" so we post here and make it sligthly bodybuilding/PED related and all is good with the homoes i mean homies..

First, congrats! I don't know if it's better or worse but my wife was always so sick the first trimester with our two kids (10 years apart) that she always lost weight to start...but she felt terrible until she got to that second trimester. Sounds like things are stable now with her so that's good. My wife always focused on what to eat for the health of the baby which kept her mind focused on that part mostly but gosh she had those negative body image thoughts creep in as well. Some of it is probably inevitable as long as it stays under control.

Ya that’s actually how we found out, it was almost like she had the flu first 2 weeks and when it pasted she got all these cravings. Got to the point where she’d cry a lot and say she didnt know why she’s craving all these different foods but that’s when I knew something was really up cuz she’s been on a consistent diet since the first few months we were together. Definitely a lot better now and she’s back to eating a balanced diet

Props to you for being a good guy.
This is also a single comment on the "Pic you took today" thread rather than an entire new thread.

One day when you decide you want to diet hardcore and get truly shredded and K starts complaining about it make sure you remind her of how you temporarily gave up on your goals for her. Women have a bad habit of being unfair like that.

Yaaa, I’m hoping it’s just the hormone change with the pregnancy. She’s been completely fine before this, only thing she cares about is that I tell her what I’m taking so she knows what to expect with my mood. when we started going out the first thing I told her was “this is my life and I don’t plan on giving it up” so she’s aware of my stance. Just a road bump🤷🏼‍♂️

I figured it was something unique that not many bodybuilders have to go through, I know some people probably think “this is stupid, I would never” but its something that I thought gives a different perspective so I thought I’d share my experience in a longer context

Yup. 3 hip surgeries in less than a year. More time off then on. Just get back to it when you can and start doing what you gotta do. All of these setbacks are nothing but a blip in the grand scheme of most of our BB journeys.

Glad to see it didn’t push you too far out. The best part of taking time off is that you realize just how much you love this shit when you start back up.

Looking good my dude! 💪

Maybe I’m the only one who is about to have this take and I’ll take the heat from it if so, but…

I tend to live my life in a way that inspires and motivates others around me. My wife has been around me many times while going into shows and each time I have inspired her through my actions and how I conduct myself to want to be healthier and look her best during those times without saying a word.

I guess what I’m getting at is I would never throw out my healthy lifestyle and adopt anyones just to appease a situation. My strong guess would be that you and K just aren’t communicating properly as you guys should be able to have both things and you not sacrifice what fulfills you.

Again, I’m no psychologist but I have lived a life of this as a bodybuilder and have a mother who has bulimia so know a thing or two about body and eating disorders.

Either way congrats on the kid and know you’ll progress forward either way. Just don’t lose yourself in the process.

You sound like a devoted husband! Soon to be a great father as well. Kudos to you for stepping up and being a rock for your wife! Marriage can be difficult, but you’re just navigating a bump in the long road ahead.

Your wife will have your back this much more for what you helped her through. Keep being the rock for your family!

Best wishes for you and your expanding family!
