or quarter deads, should the hands be facing the same way when gripping the bar?
I find I can lift more if my palms are in different directions, one facing in and one facing out.

Same grip is better in that

you have less potential of getting a torn bicep
 
i like doing them alternate grip but make sure on ur next set u use the alternate grip with each handing the other way
 
hands facing the same way. you will eventually build one side of your traps bigger than the other.

Magoo is right this is how i do them
 
like said before, I alternate my grip as well but you need to make sure that your changing your grip for each set. but play with it with a lighter weight first. your naturaly going to want to alternate your hand in one position and the other may feel weird at first. so try it out before trying to tear a ton off the floor and getting hurt.
