When doing dumbell side bends...

I don't think that's an exercise that bodybuilders generally do. We don't want thick obliques. And it isn't going to help get rid of the love handles, diet does that.

i agree... i'm sore there if i do really heavy squats or deadlifts

i dont wanna get wider down there

i fail to see the point in that exercise. am i missing something?

it tightens up your obliques... i used to do those when i was a mens health homo... you can get sore there so its working...

but now that i know better.. i dont see the point

:D

i sometimes see folks doing them in the gym, and i know what they are supposed to be doing, i just always felt like compound lifts and ab work would pretty much have your obliques covered.

kinda like doing an adductor machine instead of squatting

do you do them going all the way to the side and than returning all the way to the other side like:

Or do you go all the way to the side and than return to the upright position like:

**broken link removed**

What is the correct way to do these? What way is better for building the obliques?
Thats a horrible excercise that i preach to people never to do , the only time you should use that is with light wt for stretching , also that hip rotator machine is another one i would stay away from , i see girls doing that all the time with added wt and they think there losing there love handles when in reality there building there obliques:confused:

I do think the exercise has a place in sports conditioning, but likely not bodybuilding. I've done it w heavy weights (for me) 200 pounds or so with a tricept bar. Most people seem to do it for reducing love handles, and as already stated, i just don't work that way.....

Amen. I never do side bends.

Well, only to pick up shit that I drop when I'm sitting or something.
