Hey guys,
I'll try and make this brief but here is what i'm freaking out about.
I'm 21 and at a recent physical I had some blood work done, just the standard shit but I asked the doctor to test testosterone levels as well. He reluctantly agreed saying "I would be floored given your amount of muscle mass if you were anything but on the high end". Now i'm not all that big being a natural lifter, but not small either (6'3" 240lbs about 10-12%). Anways, the results came back and my test. was at approx 1.6! The "normal" range is about 2.7-12.0 for males age 20-50. Needless to say I had it retested yesterday (one month later) and have an appointment to talk to him about the results next week.
Now here's the thing, i've always kind of thought (within the past 4-5 years) I have had some side effects of low testosterones, specifically a very low sex drive and terrible erection quality. I also get pretty lethargic sometimes and have bouts of what seems like mild depression.
Also, I was always pretty fat growing up and I developed gyno at around age 13-14 and had it untill I was 19 where I got it surgically corrected. That seems indicitave of some kind of hormone imbalance.
The confusing part to me is that it doesn't seem like I have a very hard time holding on to muscle mass or gaining strength (although it is a biiitch to get shredded), and I'm also a hairy MF'er. I powerlifted as a teenager and was squatting and deading in the 500's at 17y\o, so my symptoms seem to be contraindicative.
Like I said, I've never done a cycle before and I wasn't taking any supplements around the time of my test. The only thing I can think of is that I was a bit overtrained from being on a cutting diet and doing a lot of cardio.
I'm just trying to get some insight here from anyone who has experienced this or knows someone in a similar situation. I don't necessarily want to have to be on HRT for the rest of my life as a 21 y\o but I would love have a decent sex drive (so would my girlfriend) and be able to shed the last layer of what seems like "baby fat" that is so god damn stubborn. I'm normally a big time endo, but being an exercise science major i've busted my ass to get down to where I am now bodyfat-wise, which is probably still considered "fat" to some of you guys, but the leanest i've ever been.
Lastly, my father is in his fifties and is on HRT, and they think it was diagnosed late and linked to bouts of depression he had in years past.
Any advice or thoughts are appreciated I'm just trying to figure things out. Researching on the internet does nothing but freak me out and make me think I have all types of diseases like Klinefelters or somethine ridiculous... which I hope isn't the case. Also, I will let you know how my appointment goes with my doc a week from friday... I don't know how experienced he is with HRT I'm guessing I'll just get a referral to an endo if it's low again.
Thanks,
James
