This coming year the NPC has announced a new category of competition called CLASSIC PHYSIQUE.
Emphasis is going to be placed on conditioning and a tiny stomach, which makes me think that the "vacuum pose" will be held in high regard like it was in the '70's when you didn't see guys with big guts doing well in the sport.
This new division was said to be created in response to comments by Arnold Schwarzenegger about the terrible look of the huge gut on competitors these days.
Men's physique competitors have gotten to the point that they look much like the top pros of the "Classic Era" of bodybuilding. This new division will allow the current men's physique division to return to its original look of a beach body, while taking the incredible musculature of the top men's physique guys to transition into the new men's "Classic Physique," provided they actually have some leg definition under those ridiculous dress-like board shorts.
How many of you guys are interested in competing in this new division?
My Big Question:
Do you guys think the proportions judges will look for will emulate the 1975 Arnold Schwarzenegger look of huge arms(23.5"), obvious flat cobra like stomach, and legs not much bigger than his arms at (28")?
Or, will they look for the same outrageously huge legs of today but with a smaller mid section?
I prefer the 70's look where legs were muscular but not obscene like today.
I would imagine current men's physique pros without legs will either have to back off the protocols to look more like a guy who is natural, or they'll have to really play catch up on their legs.
Will the classic look of Arnold Schwarzenegger rule the new Classic Physique Division. I sure hope so!!!
