Here is something that works well for me, and maybe it will work well for some you. I use a product from Mario Badescu by the name of drying lotion. heres the link: **broken link removed**
Its a great product, but now that times are a little tough i figured i could make this myself, for a lot less money. Basically it's calamine lotion, and salicylic acid both of which are very easy to purchase. I went to walmart, found the calamine for about $2, and the salicylic acid for about $5. The calamine lotion, any brand will do, as far as the salicylic acid..i found the Clean and Clear deep cleaning astringent had the highest %. Make sure to get the normal strength, it has 2% salicylic acid.
Now how this works is kind of odd, but it does the job for me...i used an empty 10ml vial, cleaned it with alcohol, and let it air dry. I found the calamine lotion to watery, so i thicken it up with some glycerol. Once you do this, pour the thicken calamine lotion about 1/3 of the way up. Then you fill the remaining 2/3 of the vial with the salicylic acid.
Very important for this to work, do not shake the vial...the way this works you let the calamine settle to the bottom...it will do this on its on. after about 5-10 min, you'll see the calamine at the bottom, and the salicylic acid on top...keep it that way.
To use it, just deep a q-tip through the salicylic acid, into the calamine lotion, and just pull it out. Again do not shake the vial.
Use this at night, and wash off in the morning.
If you can afford the actual product, than definitely give it a try. But if you rather save some money, then give this at home version a shot. CJ
