If you have access to kettle bells try 2 arm swings. You would be suprises how much you feel in your hams and glutes and core. That was the first I started my journey back into lifting with.
Yes I had adjustments but they made my problems worse. I still squat light weight but using the smith machine only.

today i was able to do squats but it gets worse anytime i bend over to put the weight down, the chiro did help yesterday tho
