I'm certified through ACE but have yet to train anybody. Jobs are hard to find where I am but my best bet right now is LA fitness. They are letting me come in and train someone tomorrow so that they can judge whether or not I have the knowledge to work there. Anybody have experience with this company?

Im a training manager at a club in tx.

i just saw one of thoses in the town i work at now.
its huge and theres at least 100 cars parked outside for that.. its insane..

Yeah its all the NEW YEARS RESOLUTION people. Give it two months and it will be back to normal.

Chuck,

I have interviewed and have known people who have trained at the New Tampa location in Fl and they do get a ton of traffic, however pay is
$12/hour if you are training a client. There are some good trainers at LA, but from the experiences I have had and have heard about turnover there is HUGE because of the pay. A good trainer can make more bank on their own or at a Lifestyle's or Gold's. So I will say that these clubs seem to have a good working environment but pay is pretty crappy. However, if you are willing to work for the $12 an hour I say go for it!

I was a trainer for years. Its all about selling yourself. You sell your self to the prospects and you will do great. The best technical trainer will bomb if they have a weak personality and can't sell themselves. FYI. I am in real estate now but still have friends in the business. Lifetime fitness pays a hell of alot more then La fitness. La Fitness pays the worst in the business by far.

not to mention they sell half hour sessions. so its only 12 an hour if you have back to back clients all day long. most are unmotivated, unhealthy people that dont really want to workout except they got scammed into buying training. not very rewarding training these type of people.

I am a TGM in sandiego
I write about 20-30k a pay period, what they pay us is no where near that though.

I am personal friends with Mike Uliberry CEO and I have met mishu welch many times (owner)

ace is a shitty certification

issa is better and just as easy im sure, thats my CERT.

scary enough, most GM's at LA fit are not certified! !

this is wrong information

the BASIC PAY FOR A TRAINER is MINIMUM WAGE Unless you break draw ( more training sessions than BLANK slots or basically train 80 clients a pay period and you qualify for 15$ an hour)

as a trainer you can sell training memberships and get 7.5% commission
GM's only get 5.5. go figure

while this is true it is also circumstantial

ask DC he trains at LA fit right by me

I trained marshall faulk for a while, he was motivated

i tran a lot of MMA guys ( look at undisputed in san diego)

i had robert killebrew from the longhorns ( youtube him ) under my wing too

I also hired dennis newman ( former mr usa competed against phil in 94 showdowns) and he motivates people trust me .

MT,

Maybe the LA Fitness you know of is different, but it is out-sourced through a company called Pro Results at the one here in New Tampa and there is no draw system. It is $12 per client, per hour. Our Lifestyle's and Gold's gyms work off of draws, but not LA Fitness.

I worked for LA fitness for 3 years and what MuayThai said is correct you do only get paid minimum wage unless you break draw. as far as him saying as a Trainer you can sell training memberships for commission i sold quite a few training memberships and never saw a dime either because the sales people screwed me, or the trainers dont actually get commission because they have two teams the trainers, and the sellers of training.

Helpful Hint
if you get a job there you probably wont be breaking draw for a while until the people who sell training fill your schedule up, so what lots of new trainers do is keep a log of all the clients they train, and dont actually charge them for the training session and take the minimum wage then when you have enough clients and start plugging them into your schedule when you have a gap and charge them for the sessions you are owed ;)

bro, they are obligated to give you the DEAL
trainers can sell training and get more commission than TAM's n Gm's
TGMS can sell memberships too

I was a PT Director for Body of Change in LA Fitness but left b4 LA retook over PT for lord knows what time....as a training GM You are good to go...floor trainers are pretty underpaid though...mine were getting $6-9 per 1/2 hr

Trainers company wide average about 16 per hour...commissions, roll over, etc....trainers have very little responsibilities..show up, and train. u dont have a client you dont have to be there. If someone shows the aptitude for selling, we are going to move them up to make some money. Average trainer can make maybe 30-35k.....TAM maybe 35-45....TWGMs 40-50...A good TGM can make 70-100 or so. Most of the trainers at my club are part time, i work in a college town. Works well for them, works well for me. No one has to take a job, yet plenty of people apply. If you are a bad ass trainer and dont want to sell, LA Fitness is not for you.

this is probably similar to 24 hour fitness..........or any corporate gym.

ive noticed that the PT jobs are focused more towards college kids looking to work around their schedule. i think when ur getting paid like that you really cant appeal to top flight trainers unless its their hobby.

most of our clients dont need someone with a masters exercise physiology...they are 30-50 something with minimal to no workout experience. That makes up about 75% of our clientele.
