Any of you guys happen to know any wholesale places to purchase free weights, or who has the best prices? The cheapest I've found so far is .74lb, that didnt sound too bad!

Good question. I remember 300lb weight sets used to be $150. Wish I could still find them!

Check in your area for resale sports shops....50 cent a pound and it is hard to tear up a plate. Bars you have to check pretty close but the plates are usually great.

Be sure they are a matched set not mix and match crap.

Although, some of those people are dreaming with those prices. Trying to sell used weights at new prices, but you can get killer deals. I got a bad ass never used adjustable weight bench/squat rack with preacher curl attach, lat pulldown, rope, pull up attach, around 300 pounds in weights, leg extension/curl attach, ez-curl bar, olympic bar, bar ends, all for 200 bones. Most of those people can be talked down. The trick is to find the equipment that has never really been used, and they are obviously trying to get rid of their weights/weight set as quickly as possible to clear up space in their garage/home. Desperation is a beautiful bargaining chip.

I've made a killing buying stuff off Craigslist. You may have to be patient but deals are out there. I watched for months looking for a smith machine, finally got one for $350, when I went to pick it up the guy asked me if I wanted I could have his weights too. 400 pounds of Olympic plates!

I bought 140 lbs in weights at the local flea market for 40 bucks.

"play it again sports" they usually dont have much, but it wouldnt hurt to give them a look if they have a store in your area.

Craigslist around here is crazy. 300lb set for $400 and it looks like it was buried next to an industrial waste site for 20 years.

And that's on the low end. For whatever reason weights here are crazy. Damn good thing I have a key to the $25k newly renovated football team weight room.

A guy just contacted me on craiglist and is given me some iron plates, bench, and a couple of bars for free. He just wanted to get rid of it Its bout 200lbs of free weights which puts me at a really good start. I still have to train at my gym onl leg day though Thanks guys I'll still be looking into purchasing some more weights.

I work for a school district too and have access to the weight room too which is so cool,(tons of free weights) but its so hard to work my schedule around the schools schedule to use the gym.

For some reason the high school bought over 1000lbs of rubber weights. Very nice for deadlifting that is for sure. I got funny looks because I was using a straight bar versus the oval shaped "deadlift" contraption bar thingy. Cheater bar is what I call it.

One even had the balls to tell me I was doing it wrong.

Used is probably the only way to get a cheap deal...I do the buying for the shop I manage and I pay between .50 and .75/lb at wholesale price...Keep in mind too that even if you find a good deal on the plates, you might pay crazy freight charges.

Kudos to you guys who can train at home!
I wish like hell i could. Over the years i have bought and gave away probably 5k worth of weights, bars, benches ect... all because of my failed attempts to train at home. I cant get motivated at home and i tend to sit in front of the tv or refrigerator more then i even touch the weights. At the gym its totally different... flat screen tvs are on every machine but i never even take time to look at them.
Good luck finding a great deal. With the economy like it is now i imagine it shouldnt be hard. I always just bought mine from Dicks sports and payed out the ass for the stuff.

craigslist be a good bet. i was in academy getting some shoes the other day and thought hell i might buy some dumbbells,lol,they were charging a dollar a pound,shit and then tax,imagine buying the 60's,70's and 80's pound sets.

Play it Again Sports I bought a set of Hex dumbbells 5-100lbs .39lb. They gave me a discount. If you bought more than 400lbs. Same deal with plates. They were at .59 lb when I got them last year, but are now up to .79lb. So probably now with deal would be .59lb. The one where I live all all types of bars, plates benches etc. with lots of used bodysolid stuff.

the last time I remember DICKS had them for under $0.70. I remember they always had a sale where they were $0.50 a lb. I know it all went up now but I still think they are under $0.70 a lb. Call and ask them.

on ebay they had jade plates for .74 a pound.. very cheap.. the same seller had dumbells and much else for great prices.. they were used but, awesome condition..
