Got a buddy of mine who has been running a keto style diet (following Shelby's book on low carb dieting) and has had great results with dropping some fat. He has been training steady for 1.5years now , no AAS usage yet plans on it when he slows gaining naturaly.
Currently 6'5" 220lbs about 10% BF (good abs showing) , down from a slopy 280lbs range. He has been running the Keto style diet for 9 months (following Shelby's book the last 3 months) now and the last few weeks the fat loss has slowed and the strength has all but stopped. He has been doing refeeds every Sunday , getting 500-600g carbs from oats , sweet potatos and fruit spread out for 3 meals.
He came to me asking about what to do to start adding some muscle , and was wondering if he could just up the amount of food in each meal he eats now , say just add 20-30% more protein and fat to the existing meals.
He realy like the way he feels on this eating plan , happy with the food and deosnt' realy want to change anything other that just start gaining muscle.
So my question is , is it feasable to gain muslce and stay lean while running a keto diet as long as the daily cal intake is above that of what you burn?? or should you just add carbs to a few of the meals like pre and post workout?
I advised him to just hire Shelby and try the carb cycling routine but he is scared he'll get fat agin if he eats carbs daily
So do any of you guys bulk up running high protein , mod fat , no carbs
