Also, did anyone see the Law and Order SVU from two weeks ago? It was about something very similar. Someone encouraging a person to commit suicide online and they were being charged for it.

Well, if they egged him on in the forums then the mods have ip addresses of the posters. Now if it was in the chat room then that would be more difficult to indentify them.

Yeah i am. Granted they can trace IP addresses and emails and alot of technical stuff but when it comes down to it how can they prove it was actually YOU sitting at the computer writing it?? What if you lived in ahouse with 2 buddies and one of your buddies was on your computer typing this stuff because off all you shared one computer but you owned it. Are they gonna come and charge you with the crime??? If they do then a good lawyer should eb able to get you off even if you charged as an accessory or negligance(sp) or something along those lines.

Sure they can trace where the nessage originate dbut unless they have cameras set up can they actually prove it was you or whoever. if Im wrong I'm wrong i just think its a bit of a stretch.

They will go after the account holder as you are responsible for the use of your account and all content in it. So think again!! It is a civil matter, civil goes beyond the traditional boundaries of law!! You are not protected by hiding behind the screen. With civil matters you are not being charged with a crime, you are being sued for a reason. in tis case it would be the irresponsible or negligent use of your internet account, whether by you or someone you allowed access to it.

I actually almost got expelled from my high school senior year and I tried this excuse. In the end I admitted what I wrote and I got a 2 week suspension. From what I have heard, that excuse doesnt work.

Wasn't it a moderator who traced the guy's ip and called the police? No way should anyone be held responsible for that. Apparently the guy had made claims like that before and there would be no way to prove he was actually trying to kill himself. If I was watching (I wasn't), how would I know he actually took anything beside multi-vitamins? Its just a sad story and a wasted life. Trying to find someone to hold accountable is a poor way for the family to justify this poor kid's choice.

I do feel that the forum bullies that egged him on, get punished in some way, but someone in their right mind would of gave those comments zero god damn credence in the first place.

What is the jurisdiction here? What happens if one of the bullies was from Indonesia or Syria?

Anytime someone mentions suicide it should be taken seriously because you don't know if they are joking or not and as we have seen the consequences can be tragic.

Authorities (911) should be contacted in such event so they can send out the professionals to make that assessment and determination if that individual is serious or not and needs follow up services.

I am a huge bb.com user and posted with that guy for a long time, and the guys egging him on .... WOW, they do deserve a proper punishment, that place gets pretty bad and childish alot of the time. The "MISC" section should be closed forever imo

I'd punish the shit out of the guys who egged em on. I dont think the mods deserve any punishment b/c as a mod you cant always be there, but anyone who egged that guy on should get a few years and fines out the ass to teach em a good lesson. Either way, God will judge those fuckers.
