do pro's only train abs b4 comps?

I was wondering whether they trained them everyday year round like Arnie suggests on doing, or only b4 comps?

I really have no idea what they do, and you can't really trust that what you read in the muscle rags is true to life either. Personally, I train them everytime I workout, but only as a warm up, as I really don't need to "build" them...having abs are all about diet bro, and as little as I've trained them, now that I'm down in bf as low as I've ever been, mine look just fine.

I personally try to hit them once a week in off season and eod prepping for contest...i Think that is suffecient and I agree w/ Grape....it's all in the diet to see them! Take care.

Anthony Ellis has a quotable saying regarding abs: Abs are made in the kitchen, not in the gym!

I like that one Excel!! Good quote!!

Like the others say, it's all about diet. However, to make the most of training your abs, once a week in the offseason should be enough to maintain thick abs. About 3-4 weeks before a show I would think it beneficial to start hitting your abs maybe 3 times a week. The reasoning is mostly just to bring them out as full and thick as possible by showtime, by shocking them for a couple weeks.

whats up Grape? is it just me or are you trying to rub the fact your shredded in my face in all of your posts lately? *LOL* I have great abs and only train them twice a week. you just can't see em' *L* but I can feel them, does that count????
good luck and be safe...

Let me put it this way!!

All the heroin addict rock stars got a six pack ain't it ain't from training them or going to the gym. It is cause their BF is soo low. Personally in offseason mine get enough work from just lifting heavy and lifting my fat ass out of bed every morning. I train abs like 4-6months out of the year just to condition them and make them stand out a little more. Don't get me wrong to have them stick out you need to train them but, w/out the low BF you ain't gonna see them no matter what.

both are essential, u ca build ur abs up th show more at a higher bf percentage and when u rmore cut the lines in ur abs will be depper, but u gotta be cut first

I always get comments on my abs when I'm in shape, but I never work them. It's all diet.

I never train mine off season but then again they are my worst bodypart by far... maybe I should start?? LOL

I read a funny quote by Mike Matarazzo in a muscle mag a few years back. They were asking pros what their favorite ab exercise was. Matarazzo said aerobics, it just a matter of stripping off bodyfat. Then he said "Abs are like brains, everybody has them, but not everyone can prove it." That's good stuff.
