Not sure I understand as I work in sports rehab and I have never heard of a sprained ankle with those kind of restrictions. The bottom line is that your ligaments are either torn or severely stretched. They will never re-tighten or repair themselves. If you are not having surgery(and I recommend you don't); your main goal right now is RICE. Once your swelling is under control you need to start strengthening the structures around the ankle and improve your proprioception to substitute for the stability you will be lacking. However, at that point you should still be able to ambulate and even do legs with proper bracing or taping. You should even be able to do cardio with things such as recumbent bike or low impact machines like the eliptical.
I would seek out someone in your area that works with athletes and they can better consult you on what you can and cannot do as whomever you are seeing now is way too conservative.
