i know there's alot of talk about eating fruits as a main source of carbs but would it be ok to drink grapefruit juice as my main source of carbs or is there a difference?

Nothing at all as long as it is 100% pure

i know there's alot of talk about eating fruits as a main source of carbs but would it be ok to drink grapefruit juice as my main source of carbs or is there a difference?

Just make sure that it is 100% Grapefruit juice with nothing added like sugar. That means looking at the ingredients on the bottle not it's macronutrient makeup. The best scenerio would be if you made your own, with a juicer and fresh, chilled grapefruit.

great for fat burning.

How about for orals?

i know there's alot of talk about eating fruits as a main source of carbs but would it be ok to drink grapefruit juice as my main source of carbs or is there a difference?

I started drinking a glass with my supps to add some ass to them. POW, it made a differance for me. I now take a vitamin that does the same thing as the GJ. If you think your orals are loosing there ass I would try this. No kidding.

And this vitamin is??

Naringin in grapefruit is supposedly responsible for amplifying effects and absorption of orals, caffeine, ect. I can't find bulk naringin on the net though.

just spend three dollars at the local grocery store and buy some grapefruit juice then.

Searching through this...I have been trying grapefruit juice to increase absorption of oral meds like proviron and exemestane (which needs to also be taken with fat)...
Anyone know how much grapefruit juice is necessary to elicit the effect?
A cup??

I read somewhere awhile back about grapefruit causing estrogen to build up in the body. Anyone heard about this?

It isn't known exactly which compounds in grapefruit enhance the bioavailability of certain drugs:

Another area in which the search for definite answers continues, is the quest to find the active constituents of grapefruit juice that are responsible for its actions on CYP enzyme systems and Pgp. The components of grapefruit juice that are responsible for clinical drug interactions have yet to be fully determined but the compounds thought to be responsible for this action include flavonoid glycosides (narirutin, naringin, naringinen, quercetin, kaemferol, hesperidin, neohesperidin, didymin, and poncirin) [8,31-34], furanocoumarins (6',7'-dihydroxybergamottin, bergamottin) and sesquiterpen (nootkatone)[8,22,32,35,36].
(Kiani and Imam (2007))

So you are better off just using grapefruit juice.

I read somewhere awhile back about grapefruit causing estrogen to build up in the body. Anyone heard about this?

Grapefruit juice inhibits an enzyme called cytochrome P450 3A4 (aka CYP3A4). CYP3A4 is involved in the metabolism of estrogens (and much, much more). For this reason it is suspected that grapefruit may cause an increase in estrogens. However, the evidence is conflicting. Some studies find no relationship between grapefruit consumption and estrogen levels, whereas other studies find a connection.

If you are using an AI or SERM then any increase in estrogens from grapefruit would be negated but I am uncertain if the increase in estrogens in off-cycle men is significant -- especially in light of the conflicting data. Caution would dictate that grapefruit be consumed in moderation so perhaps using grapefruit as a sole source of carbohydrates (as the OP suggested) may be a bad idea.

Probably not a good idea (see my posts above).

Grapefruit juice should not be taken if you are taking some medications, like statins.

Given the Cyto P450 connection it may be advisable to adjust the dosing of medications such as C17 steroids (Var, oxy, Dbl)...

As mentioned above grapefruit juice extends to bioavailability of medcations metabolized by P450 and thus can be more harsh on the liver... Keep in mind not all meds are metabolized by this particular enzyme.

For instance in Psych hospital patients will not be given grapefruit juice in any amount be cause it effects the metabolism of certain medications used to treat major mental illnesses...

The following is a list complete or incomplete-- I do not know-- of medications metabolized by P450 http://medicine.iupui.edu/clinpharm/ddis/p450_Table_Oct_11_2009.pdf

getbiggest: my apologies, I didn't answer your initial question... and I don't have an answer...

Just wondering why grapefruit juice for carb source? There might be an estrogen issue as stated. BioPerine would be another one that improves bioavailability.

So drinking say a cup of grapefruit juice with normal supplements like fat burners, multi, joint support, etc WOULD enhance their bioavailability as well or is it only the drugs that Cyto P450 family of enzymes metabolize?

What about using it with proviron? Exemestane? If it raises the bioavailability then you COULD take less and get the same effects...
Last time I checked grapefruit juice cost less than both of those drugs...;)

It would only effect drugs metabolized by Cyto P450.

You might try a google search to see if proviron is metabolized by Cyto P450. Drugs.com maybe??? Complete Exemestane information from Drugs.com

Exemestane is extensively metabolized byCYP3A4.

Just Make Grapefruit juice with this

It has added test to it too.
