Had to get a pain shot yesterday...

Hi guys. It's no secret that I've battled an addiction to Nubain and pain pills. For about the last 3 days my lower back had been killing me. Spasms, shooting pain, tightness. Almost to the point I couldn't get out of bed.

So I end up going to the ER last night because the pain got that excrutiating for me. The doctor tells me, "we're going to give you a shot of Nubain." Imagine that. A former addict could have been given a shot of what was once his favorite drug of choice. I stopped him right there and said, "like hell you will." He didn't understand why, and then I told him what the deal was and that I was on Suboxone. No way I was letting the Devil get me again.

The doc took one look at me, and said that he couldn't believe I was so open and up front with him. I got the relief I needed. I was given toradol and valium. I didn't want to do it guys, but dang it had to be done. Im feeling much better today after some heat therapy as well.

Thanks TB. When the doc said it, there was no way that garbage was going into my body again. It amazes me how simple it is to get whatever you want. I know it would have worked, but I also know the can of worms that crap can open up. No way in hell am I walking that path again.

The toradol and valium did the trick, plus I slept like a rock...LOL!!!! Only thing was I missed my damn scheduled injects last night. I made up for it this mornin!!!

Good for you! Most people addict or not would have taken a shot of nubain before they would even think of Toradol... I had a brief stent where I was injured and forced to be inactive for a while. I was addicted to the endorphin rush of physical activity, and when I couldnt get that rush for a while I sought out pleasure somewhere else. I got hooked on pain medication to substitute my lack of activity. I got on that for about three months, which by comparison to some is not long at all, nor were the dosages that high. But the fact the I looked forward to that little time of pleasure was actually the most disturbing part. I would sometimes just look at the clock again and again to wait for the next time around. My pain was actually tolerable at that point too. But like you said, it's very easy to get pain meds so i would just call my doc, and he would write me a couple of prescriptions of percocet. I eventually got to the point where I could get out again and kicking the habit was pretty easy after the first day. But like I said I wasn't on it for very long... I thank god that it was so easy for me, but I feel for the people who can't seem to get off or struggle with it on a day to day basis.

Sorry I didn't mean to hijack your thread. I guess Im typing that I can relate, albeit in a small way, to your issue. Congratulations to you. You needed something for your pain and you were wise enough to pick the lesser of the two evils so to speak. Keep doing what you're doing!

That was a very smart move on your part denying that shot. I believe with the suboxone, might have nullified the effect of the nubain, another words it might not even have worked. Or second, it might have put you into a state of withdrawel cause of its chemical structure of nubain. Any thoughts on weaning yourself off the suboxone? Had a few friends do it and took them a couple days and they were ok. Either way congrats on your sobriety and take each day clean as an acomplishment and be proud of it cause it will be a life long battle that you fight each day!

Since when did they start using a female baby birth drug in the emergencey room? I have been the ER a million times and never ever been given Nubain.
My wife was given Nubain during child birth and so was my sister in law, but i have never seen it used in the ER. I know its a drug used to pain and its not even a controlled substance in the USA. Still its usually only given in child labor.
Always Morphine or Demerol.

Pumpt73, you have my respect as you could have easily kept your mouth shut and gotten that shot of Nubain which you know for a fact would have led you back into that addiction. Good for you for keeping your sobriety on Nubain. The bodybuilders devil drug.

good for you bro , now that the symptoms have been treated find the cause and get that strait. Maybe look into a deep tissue massage for your back or good hydro theropy.
When i get realy tight muscles , strain , sprains or whatever i rub Absorbine gel on it , this shit is great!! doesent burn but it penitrates deep and helps better than anything i have used. You have to get it from a feed store though as its used for horses mostly , some pet stores may have it though

Logan, trust me bro, I know exactly what you mean. I used to look forward to each time I got to dose myself. That little bit of euphoria, relaxation, and warmth was what I loved about it. It's morbid bro, I know, but that's what it is.

Grylls, you'd be surprised bro what they'll give you nowdays. My girlfriend has to get one every now and then because of her headaches. She has a Chiari Malformation. Look it up, and you'll see what I mean. Her headaches are so debilitating that whispering will bother her. And Nubain is the only thing that will kill it. Bain is getting used more and more because of the fact that it works so well. You'd be very surprised what you can get anymore when you walk into an ER.

big E, oh yes bro, I know exactly what can happen if you mix Subs with opiates. The withdrawal wasn't my concern. Bro, I was an addict. Withdrawal's are no stranger to me. What I was concerned with was getting that first shot, then knowing damn well, I would probably want it again, and again, and again. No way was that demon going into my body again. I want to wean slowly off my Suboxone, but you have to understand bro, and I will never deny this, that I LOVE the feeling from opiates. Relapse scares the hell out of me. I would rather be on Suboxone for the next 20 years than relapse once.

Gunsmith, you read my mind bro. I made an appointment with my friend's sister. She does deep tissue so Im going to see her on Sunday.

Again, thank you all for the encouragement. Im being treated, but each day I know is a day that I could lapse and start down the wrong path again.

Pumpt, I too suffer from addiction to pain meds. I've been clean and sober for 2yrs 4 1/2 months. I had to have surgery last summer and was given hydros for the house. While on them though i realized how much they made me feel like shit and got off of them only using ibuprofen. I commend you on your stand up decision and wish you well on your road of recovery. It's a road that lasts forever

Grylls I have seen it for pain, and I have even seen it for a person who had a pruritic rash to relieve the itching when Benadryl didn't do the trick (believe it or not, while drastic, it did relieve the itching). It's used a lot more often than it used to.
