HCG... is it the new Diet drug for women?

Anyone know much about this?
A Few friends of My wife told her they are using hcg and have lost a lot of weight

I told her Ive never heard of that myself but would ask around.
Seems a group of them now are using it and getting it from some doc here in the area. Its gotten so popular here that they just moved to a bigger office
and have there own hcg specialists answering phones and questions on it.

I did a satellite Internet install for a woman about a year ago. I commented on how much weight she has lost, compared to a picture I saw on the wall. And then she told me how she did it. She showed the book. Even showed me all her HCG amps she had in the frig.

after further questions about the diet, I found out it is only 500 calories a day.

Also the diet is promoted by the guy that does the vitamin infomercials. I can't think of his name. But he is a known con-artist.

Yea before she goes and joins her buddies ( I can tell she plans to) Id like to have a better understanding of what exactly the HCG is doing in this HCG diet plan. Not that I own her or can control her or stop her....But just so I can kind of keep an eye out and have a better understanding of what shes up to.

There was post on it awhile back. At least 6 months. Can't remember precisely. Some doctor wrote book about diet and hcg resetting mechanism of fat loss(layman terms for the women) in his book and gave a diet as well. It was geared towards women. A bunch of women at my job tried it and they seen zero results because they did not follow the diet he recommend which was like less than 1,000 calories a day, which you would loose weight regardless eating that much and working out.

So its Not new at all, Just these girls around here think it is.
One of them probably seen this book or infomercial.

I seen most said its BS.
So its pretty much a starvation Diet and the HCG is suppose to trigger something in (average) women that helps keep from getting hungry and starving.

I know several people who have tried it. It has worked for them, and they have kept the weight off. There are alot of videos of it on youtube about it. It seems scary eating only 500 cals a day but if you understand the research behind it, it makes it more comfortable. If I had to lose some weight I would give it a try.

There is a womens gym in a strip mall and they had a sign in the window they offer this.Wouldn't this need to be done through a doctor?

HCG diet

had 3 family members use this diet just a few months ago. Im not real sure of the scientific aspects that this Doc claims but I do know that they were on a 500 calorie diet. The ages ranged from 23, 47, and 66. I was very skeptical about it and still kinda am because I think anyone on a 500 cal diet will eventually lose weight during normal activity. They did lose about 20 lbs in a 6 week period. They swore by it. They claim they felt very good and their skin and hair felt better than normal as well. In a thread last week, I had mentioned that someone in the Tribune claimed that Manny Ramirez was taking HCG because of it's weight loss benefits.

Which we all know damn well isn't the reason why he took it. Anyway, I googled it and found that it is just the latest fad, which is likely how the reporter "discovered" the reason behind Ramirez HCG regimen.

at that low cal, per day with just a little cardio they should lose the lbs with out anything. but the question will they keep it off when they hit there target. i think i would rather her use hgh.

Rajiin, I studied this diet a little and found out that it was the late Dr. Simeons that came out in 1954 with this diet. He was claiming fat loss though HCG and other claims. In the early 70's The Journal of the American Medical Association deemed it unsafe. Dr. Simeons gave up his claims and his studies. Lately this scam artist, Kevin Trudeau started promoting it and wrote a book. The company that marketed his book had an injunction levied against them, by the FTC, for deceptive advertising. Kevin Trudeau spent time in prison for deceptive claims. The ultra low calories will make you lose weight, however, we all know that you need x amount of calories for your basic metabolic rate. If you go below this you will actually slow your metabolism down, creating a yo, yo effect. If a diet sounds to good to be true, then it probally is.

This is new to me from what ive learned so far HCG aka pregnyl, is a hormone that is prodused by pregnant women. In everything that Ive seen it says that it produces NO benifits for women, only in men. If its true that it helps reset a persons metabolism then I may look into it.
