Put down reasons reason why the sport of bodybuilding is different than it was 15-20 years ago...

Example - (i'll go first)

This internet thing --- It has totally changed the outlook of every national level show (and pro shows) because there are no more suprise guys anymore...Everyone post up pics (Im gulity to!!!:D) Each week as there getting ready for shows now...Without the internet (Pre internet days) You only heard about guys if you went to the show, or followed it in the magazines...(then you were always 2 months behind) Hell when I was a kid, I remember having to wait until the magazine came out the next month to get the results of the Mr.O...LOL !!! :p that's how out of tune bodybuilding is to the rest of the world...Makes you think that if there was no internet, we wouldnt have to worry about who is going to get nailed next and whatnot...

Ok who is next

seems like more health issues

doitright-ignorant comments. c'mon, seriously, how many people have died from steroids? i want evidence. i want a study showing this. otherwise, quit saying stupid, uneducated shit.

peptides
cost
arrogant retards who think they're the shit because they won some local bullshit show
everybody thinks their a model

More detail guys - I what this to be a learning thread to ...LOL !!!

I think the "look" in general has changed. The mass Monsters, have pretty much dominated the headlines... To each their own, but I'm more of a fan of the 202 class, and am glad that it's having more of an impact recently.

I agree that the look has changed. Maybe I am not paying attention enough but I don't see that grainy look as much anymore. There was plenty of it around during the 80's and the only current example I can think of is the Phil Heath pictures pre-olympia 2009 where he is in the green trunks.

haha almost forgot of another example.... Alex Azarian of course :D

i think the size of legs have changed ALOT.
nowadays, if you don't have legs you don't have anything.

much different back in the day. i think it would be a great debate as to WHY legs are now bigger. judges rewarding them? drugs producing them? training them more seriously? -STEELE

I do think it is uneducated to think that using steroids doesnt raise your risk of serious health consequences. Doing so is going to put you at a higher risk than those that do not use. There is tons of medical evidence out there on the effects on the heart, blood, liver, etc. We have had several of us on this site with heart troubles. liver problems, blood clots, I could probably list more. If you choose to ignore this and play it off as just chance and that it happnes to everyone then thats your choice. People in their 30s loosing a good portion of their liver, having heart attacks, blood clots, and cardiomyopathy is not the norm I am sorry to say.

Vacuum poses are a thing of the past.
GH guts.

I agree! The 202 class is very competitive, and I hope it will put and end to guys tryin 2 put on too much mass to compete, and ruining his physique. I think Yates and Coleman (the first couple olympia titles) were the best conditioned mass mosters. I also feel heavy insulin and overeating to get huge has had a negative impact on the conditioning of most of the contestants this decade. But I think the tide is beginning to change. Guys that are 215 220 don't have 2 hold as much size that doesnt look good on em. They can diet down and look huge against the other guys. I'm loving it!!!

i hope one of these days the 70's look will make a come back...

i love the vacuum pose my favorite! and front lat!

Oh in addition I believe heavy insulin use and over eating is to blame for the distention and ruining pysiques like ronnie, jay, dennis james, and Gustavo Badell...

one word

Greed…. $$$$

BIGGER - The muscle mass of competitors is just freaky compared to then!

STRONGER - They were strong then, but now they are taking it to a whole different level!

FASTER - Competitors are growing faster than ever with regards to muscle mass! It is still a marathon, but they are getting there a bit faster!

All this when be accredited to more knowledge available thru internet, books, etc...Advanced supplementation has helped greatly. So many resources out there for bodybuilders, they have more choices to choose from - coaches, prep guru's, supplements, reading materials, so forth....

Now, one thing screwing it up is the uneducated media and the few bodybuilders that give the sport a bad name! Just not accepted much these days as it was once upon a time!

I started working out and buying bodybuilding magazines in 1983...I turned 40 this year. One of the things that seemed to change over the years was the comradery. In the 70's there seemed to be a real brotherhood. In the 80's it was still there but slowly declining. In the 90's and the early part of this decade some of the personalities and ego's seemed to cast bodybuilding in a negative light(aside from the ongoing steroid issue). Now, I feel like the sport is going back to a better time as far as attitudes and ego's are concerned.

When I began researching steroid use, way back when, PCT didn't exist. Nolvadex was around for gyno then HCG came into play.

Drug use seemed to be simpler...more basic. Now basic seems to include GH, Slin, IGF.

I think it can all be summed up by looking at 1993 Chris Cormier..the year he won the usa. Then look at our recent usa winners...or take a look at jr nationals pics from saturday. I dont understand why the level of physiques has dropped so much from the 90's. You just dont see any cormiers, flex's, Tom Princes ect coming up the ranks anymore. Today you have guys who get shredded but dont have the mass, guys who are huge but always too soft ect. Where is the total package???!!!
