If your pee foams-Protein in urine-Suma root

Hello everyone,
I've recently found out that pee does not/should not bubble up and foam in the toilet bowl naturally. It never occurred to me that my pee should not be foaming, but I was informed otherwise. Often times this is a sign of protein in the urine (It can mean other things as well) and may indicate kidney problems. I'm going to the doctor as soon as I can to have this checked out, but I probably will not be able to go for another 2 months. I've read that Suma Root (at 2 grams/day) can help with protein absorption in the kidneys; can any of you confirm this? I would like to find out if any of you are in the same situation as me, and if this is considered a "natural" effect of our high protein diets.

My main concerns are:
1, Is it normal for urine to foam when eating a protein rich (500g/day) diet?

2, Does the foaming indicate ongoing kidney problems/damage, or the development of kidney problems/damage?

3, Will suma root actually help with protein absorption in the kidneys and will it fix this?

Thanks for the help in advance,
H.

Let's see:
1) I don't think so.

2) Possibly.

3) It's been a while, but if I remember right all nutrient absorbtion takes place further upstream.

Foamy urine can definitely be a sign of protein... and foamy urine can also be signs of disease (lupus, malaria...). Intense exercise can cause an increase creatine kinese levels, ATP usage, and can and often does cause an increase of protein levels in ones urine.

The bottom line, I believe, is that no one here on an online forum, even if/when formally trained can offer a credible definitive diagnosis concerning complex medical conditions. Remember we are not in some third world shit hole where medical care is hit and miss, we are living in one of the most medically advanced countries in the world, we would be foolish not to take advantage of this precious resource... just my $.02

Just recently had an ultrasound done on my Kidneys. Everything come back normal. My Doctor wanted this done because high levels of protein were found in my urine sample. I explained to him that i like to hit the weights on a regular basis and eat high protein. Hope this helps.
P.S. Yes my piss does foam at times. Peace.

You need to see a doc asap. Proteinurea can be caused by things as benign as heavy lifting, but is more often a sign of a serious kidney issue. I discovered I have focal segmental glomerularsclerosis from protein in the urine. Its under control (I went on a simple ACE inhibitor and now it should never present a real problem) but if I had let it go untreated I was headed for kidney failure in the next 10 years.

I never have any foam, but i do get some bubbles......Could the bubbles just be the splash?

It's always going to bubble and foam if you have a strong stream.

Im much going through the same thing as present as mentioned in my thread i posted. As for foamy urine, i couldnt say if mine is foamy or whether it was bubbly...

I had an ultrasound of my kidneys 2year ago due to high CK levels ( had just trained heavy the day before, they dropped to a bit above normal after 3-4days off ) and mine came back perfect then...

Just had a routine health check the other week and protein in my urine was found, i believe as a +2 whatever that means. Never had this checked for before for some reason so i can't say how long its been there, but i feel 100%. That being said the specialist i seen yesterday says the kidneys can lose 80% of their function before we may ' feel ' anything adverse...:(

I asked about high protein diet and she was quite happy for me to continue with it. She also stated many things can cause protein in urine, some being detrimental to them and some perhaps not, ie training..

I mentioned in other thread but i'll mention it again. I drink 4-5 litres of water/day and she said this isnt good for the kidneys...hadnt expected that. Says causes them to over work and not concentrate the urine...im up 3-4 times/night for a wee..
Also advised i stop creatine...which i expected,,,,,,,,and also Vitamin D which i didnt expect, but i can't recall her reasoning. In fact she actually questioned the reasoning for taken most herbal supplements and vitamins..

I had 6vials of blood taken yesterday and I've got to go back in 3 month, but in the meantime ive to get an injection of something that passes through the kidneys and then a scan. And ive also to stop eating at 10pm the day before i go into hospital and get my bloods taken every 1/2 hour to see if anything going on. Got told could be couple of hours to a day, depending how things go. All this should will defo' let me know if anything wrong though.

I told her i had planned on competing in May and had literally started my diet. Surprising she said keep at it as no reason why i should change my lifestyle yet,,,if at all...

I have routine blood tests ran every 3 months or so, do you specifically have to do a urine test or is a blood test sufficient?

I think general blood tests show if you have high urea and creatinie levels and maybe creatine kinase to. But obviosly for protein in urine, its a dip stick in a sample bottle.
The blood tests im having done now are more specific to the kidneys than the usual bloods i have done...

... or you might be on a ketogenic diet.

The ketones can make bubbles too. Foam is not necessarily a sign that your kidneys have shut down and you are about to die.

Of course it might be so you should probably paypal me the balance of your bank account when you see fizzy pee just in case.

... If there is a significant (not trace) amount of protein in the urine there is something wrong and it's something that needs to be resolved. Kidney's don't leak protein in significant amounts unless there's a problem or you are pregnant.

As long as I can remember there is always foam in when I go. Just went and it was nothing but foam, it was also a public restroom and that may make a difference too.

this thread is completely useless:(

The body excretes excess "stuff" through the kidneys. (in the urine)

I can't remember ever not having at least some bubbles in my piss. No big deal. Try dumping a stream on plain tapwater into the toilet & you'll see some bubbles. No big deal.

Seeing A LOT of bubbles might mean something though & you should get checked out.

By the way, there are ants called pissants. I was told the reason was that they can smell the excess sugar in a diabetics piss & come to collect it. (yes, I mean drink it) You might be diabetic. Anyway, get checked...

Also, think of the soap residue that might be in any toilet water. That could account for excess bubbles...

Very interested in how all this turns out, best of luck.

Thank you for the input Brabus, I've read both your threads about your problem, I hope all the tests comes back fine, keep us updated. I do not take extra vitamin D except for whats in my multi, no creatine, only 2 g of vitamin C, but I do drink a lot of flavored water, probably 6 liters per day. I'm cutting that back to 3 liters per day after reading what your doctor said about all the liquids.

Alright, here's the piss test. Don't urinate directly ito the water as bubbles will always appear. Hit the inside of the toilet, let it drain down and then see if you have bubbles. :D

Okay i have no foam very little bubbles when i urinate at work, but when i'm home i have alot of bubbles.. Maybe i should get the water from work and home tested... :):D

Just so you are aware, I had blood tests which all came back normal, and an ultrasound which also came back normal. My only symptom was protein in the urine. It took a kidney biopsy to diagnose my condition.

what if i sit down to pee??????
