Impingement Syndrome / Residual Bleeding

So I had my first session with the physical therapist yesterday for impingement syndrome in my left shoulder..

She asked me if I had noticed any residual bleeding and I said no, but after thinking about it all day yesterday, I do remember having some dark red/purplish spots around the shoulder after I first injured it. (5 weeks ago)

I wrote it off, I looked at it and thought if its still there tomorrow then Ill worry. Well it was gone and out of sight out of mind right?

As I do more research I am finding my symptoms are in line with those of a SLAP Tear in the shoulder and is commonly misdiagnosed.

Anyone been through this before? Is physical therapy going to get me back to 100% or if I do have a SLAP tear am I going to have to have surgery?

No bleeding. An impingement happens over time, not all at once.

I'm assuming you are talking about an AC joint impingement in the shoulder? If so, I have had that in both shoulders and no I don't think PT will help...at least in my situation. Here's why. My impingement was due to a neck injury that in turn, over a period of time, began pulling on my spinal cord causing my shoulders to "cave in"or roll forward. The only thing that helped me was going to a chiro, that specialized in sports rehab. I went through a traction program, which realigned my neck, hence freeing up my spinal cord and pulled my shoulders back where they belong. Granted the fluid disk at the end of the acromion in the shoulder socket itself is totally gone, at least I don't have bone grinding on bone anymore. That was almost 10 years ago and I'm still pain free. Look up Acromion Joint on Yahoo...there are some good images. BTW..don't get surgery until you have explored all options. Once they have shaved off the end of that bone (Humerus) it won't grow back and your shoulder will never be the same.

I'm 43, and I've dealt with impingement for a long time. Mostly, I've adjusted my workouts to take off some of the pressure, and accepted that more rest is needed to heal on occasion.
