19 1/4" pumped and still growing. I have been gear free for 2 1/2 + years. If I ever get back on, I am shooting for a soft 20". Pumped?

It's pretty much a relative thing. If you have 18" guns and your 300 lbs they tend to look a little puny but a 200 lb guy with 18's looks huge. I beleive that imeasurements should be part of a total package or their significance gets lost. I have seen too many guys who forget that they have legs because they are so worried about their arms. I know this doesn't apply to you Rocket as I am familiar with you from other boards. By the way I gotta give props to you for being involded in this sport at your level of "maturity" I'm not sure if you post your age everywhere but I'm always impressed by guys like yourself and hope I'll be as dedicated to bettering my body at a more mature age. By the way, I've seen pics of you and your arms do look big on you so I don't think you have anything to worry about. Keep up the good work bro. Peace.

It is fairly relative to your weight and height. When I started lifting in May last year, my arms were in the 15"-16" range. Before I started my current cycle, my right arm was 16 3/4" and my left arm was 16 3/8".

Two weeks into my cycle when the water retention started coming on, my right arm shot up to 17 3/4" and my left 17 1/4". I'm about a week away from the end of this cycle and anxious to see what the resulting measurements will be. I'll keep you guys posted.

Oh, incidentally, I'm 5'10" and around 230lbs.

I definitely believe an 18 inch arm is indeed a rather large
arm however, as has been well said overall perception will be
determined primarily by weight as well as height and bone
structure. At 5'5" and 195lbs my arms top out around 17 3/4"
and I only work them about 2-3 times per month. The funny
thing is most peoples perception of my arm size is that they
are much bigger.W

It is all relative. Plus it depends ont he shape of the arm and the leanness of it.

My arms always look small, because they are naturally not peaked and I have very large shoulders, evn though they measur eover 20".
My friend, only has 18" at 220lbs, but he has the most beautiful peaks and shape, both to his tris and bis, so they look huge, especially because he has narrow shoulders as well.

Like many have stated it's all "relative." I have seen cut/lean 18"ers that look huge compared to "fat/uncut" 20"ers.

Again - it depends on how tall/big you are. But; a "cut" 18" is the big milestone for most! Now take me for example - 5'6", small boned (6-1/2" wrist), Asian heritage. At 190#, 8.5% BF, arms measure 17" and look relatively large but it's all "tris." My bis are disproportionately small, so to me, they don't look large.

A little Syntherol mixed with some gear should get those bis in line for my next cycle (shooting for 18.5-19"!). Just hoping everything gets here by middle of this month. Else, I just wait until it does

I also belive it has alot to do with shape. My arms are 18.5 but don't look that big to me when their at my sides. The reason is my tri's suck but when I hit a double bi they look pretty deicent. This partialy could be in my head and alot of my freinds do think my arms look big. Also once I seen Flex Wheeler, Ronnie Coleman, and Nasser El Sobanty in person my idea of a big arm was changed forever. By the way I now believe 20'' to be the magic number.

this was a good post im bringing it back from the dead lol
decent topic , as iam close to the 18 range at 5-7 190 something

Mine are well over 20 but when your 6'6 and tip the scale at 330. They dont look that big. That made for an intresting read!

Update on above reply (by me):

When I posted; mine were 17", that was pumped (the only time I measured 'em back then as they were much bigger pumped) :D

Now I'm about 185 pounds and 7% BF and they're 17-1/2" cold flexed! I'm shooting for 18" cold flexed in contest shape next spring - and am on target!

hey excell and others, iam 5'6 with 16 inch arms ( my major weekpoint is bicepts). Iam shooting for 16.5- 17 to compete in late spring. Does this sound decent for my height or do I realy need to improve?
thanks CJ

i just measured.......

And at a bodyweight of 245 as of this morning, they are at exactly 20 inches cold flexed. At 260 they were almost 21inches,but I like the look better now, more veiny and the shape is a nice round softball.Yes syntherol was used over the course of this past year, but not in the past couple months. So I believe the gains are permanent.I have decided to take a couple months off gear, bulk up naturally, and then early next year go hard and heavy.I believe this way I will easily pass my previous high of 260lbs,and my arms will definetly stretch over 21 inches. I guess I need to buy new clothes again;) Anyone wondering how to get to 20 inches there is a simple formula.Heavy weight+unbelievably painful workouts+tons of food=big arms. Now if you have done this and you have trained quite awhile, and your arms have stagnated at the 18+ inch mark regardless how strong you are,and how heavy you weigh, then by all means syntherol is the final piece to the puzzle. But a word of advice,if your 18 yrs old, with 14 inch arms and have trained for a year or so...FORGET IT.Nothing substitutes hard work, muscle maturity, and heavy eating, never forget that........

A couple of things to note. At 16.5-17" in contest shape your arms can appear VERY large. My biceps do not have the genetic "peak", so I'm compensating by increasing overall size (not sure how this applies to you).

If you're gonna come in as a hvywt, you'll need bigger arms IMHO. For a middle or small lt hvy, should be no prob (again, IMO).

Small

mine are 13.5 trying to get to 14. Had ya there a little. Actually last time I measured a month or so ago they were 21 cold. Not sure what they pump up to be. Of course they aren't a ripped 21, you can see the separation from all the different muscle heads, but they aren't ready for comp. I've had guys and ladies tell me they are too big and I've come to the conclusion that it is because I have small bone structure and my forearms aren't of great size. I don't knwo what they measure but I know they should be bigger and since they are smaller it makes my upper arms look alot bigger. Does that make sense? Didn't think so.

I think 18 inches is fine. I think as long as it isn't covered in fat then it is a little out of the norm for size. Little ego push there for ya!

thanks bro I will probely either come in as a light to middle weight (depending on how this winters bulk goes). I have a little bit of peak by no means what i realy want so iam hitting my bicepts increadbly hard in a variaty of ways. Ive founf what has realy helped me out alot is switching from the cambered bar bar to the regualr straight bar for curls ever once in a while.

makes sense to me canino i have the same prob .

crackerjack414 bro when mine were 16in they still looked better than people who had bigger arms because of the high peak ,on stage smaller arms in the best shape will look bigger than larger arms in ok shape ,as long as your not standing next to the big mother lol

21 inch guns WOW what are your stats?

Thanks

I'm 5'9" 251 this morning. BF not sure. I mean you can see my abs, but in no way close to comp. Hey, its offseason anyway. For the past 3 years or so I've been using the low sets style of training. Just did back tonight and only did 5 sets, maybe 6.

Bro, it does take dedication though. I lost my first wife due to this lifestyle and my family hates the way I look. It isn't natural is what they tell me. :D Small town people/farmers don't understand.

Thanks for the feedback. Some pretty funny stuff in your post. I am from a small farm town I can just imagine a 'FREAK' like you and what the people say lol. j/k about the freak part.

I actually just started the HIT style training so it's cool to see you do it.

Good luck and keep it going.

SHIT!

You all are making me feel small!LOL my arms are 19" pumped synthol free to this point but i really want to push the envelope and see where they go althoe i have site-injected over the last 2 years and that has alot to do with it as i have always had good biceps, shoulders and calves now if the hamstrings would come up and the back I'd be set!LOL by the way my current bodyweight is 210lbs at 5'8 and about 10-11% and i haven't been on anything in 5 months. I hope to push back up to about 230 this year before dieting back down. wyldeone.

lol thanks for the advice preist, Iam still young as hell so I figure it will take me a good 5 years to catch up with most of you guys.

lol - makes me think of the thread "You know you're a bodybuilder when................."
:)
I carry a measuring tape in my gym bag! It's great for your ego to measure your arms straight after a bi/tri workout.
