kidney pain

i have a friend who is two weeks into an anavar (50mg day) and test (600mg wk) cycle and about 5 days ago he started to experience serious pain in his abdomen. he describes the location as being directly 6 inches to the left of his belly button. the pain persists for 12 hrs, upon which he goes to the emergency room where they run a battery of tests and find nothing, but admit him to the hospital. after 3 days in the hospital they prescribe him an antibiotic and release him from the hospital with the diagnosis of maybe having a kidney infection, and they were concerned with his white blood cell count. one doctor told him that he definitely didn't have a kidney infection, and another said maybe. at this point his kidneys did not hurt. the day he is released from the hospital he gets a fever and just feels generally ill. today his kidneys are hurting, first the left one this morning and then the right one this evening. he doesnt want to go back to the hospital because they couldn't give him any answers the first time so he doesn't want to rack up more needless medical bills. so i told him i would ask the board...any ideas or similar experiences? could it be the anavars toxicity?

Hopefully they did a UA to check for infection, creatinine, etc.

I would suggest he goes to a urologist. The ER is a bad place for a diagnosis.

Is he sure he doesn't also have a strained muscle as well as the kidney? Could be diverticulitis possibly? Could be a number of things. Sometimes the appendix can cause pain in the left lower quadrant sometimes?

I don't know. I am a RN and abdominal pain with fever could be several things.

ER's are great places to get help with acute trauma... broken bones and gun shot wounds come to mind... on the other hand they are not the best places to get help for things of a "less than obviously acute nature"... Emery is right, a urologist is a good option. I might start with my PCP or without insurance I might head to my county clinic. One of the many challenges with county clinics is that generally you need to be a fairly good advocate for yourself or you'll get sent home with some antibiotics and motrin... Remember pain whether it's kidney specific or abdominal general... is not normal.

I had a client of mine come into my office for a therapy appointment complaining of a toothache. I strongly encouraged him to go to the dentist. He decided to wait it out... eventually the pain went away... and then his tooth turned black... and then an infection developed... then it abcessed... eventually he went to the dentist. :lightbulb::lightbulb::lightbulb:
