since money has become a factor lately, ive been making sure i get my amount of protien lifting days, but have to cut back on the rest days like by maybe 50 to 75g cut difference , quaestion is the protien is more important on the workout day vs. the rest day, of course pwo is cruicial, but do ya think this is fine or keep it even regardless of the day

i think you will be fine, however your body does repair on your off days...

where r you getting your protein from? there are some good deals on-line
as well as sams club

true pro, but i have to conseve and use wisely

What's your diet like and your budget?
I went to school paid for each semester in what student loans I could get, worked 30 hours a week took 18 credits and worked out every day and competed...

My basic diet was tuna fish and rice. eggs at times. very little supplements.

I would go and buy in bulk from acme markets their rice and tuna and got in 3-400 grams a day easy.

I would have friends get me food in the cafe off their food card a lot as well some guys I wrote training routines for and others I helped with studies when I could to compensate as I could.

tough to make ends meet but it can be done...

I think you'll be fine, proteins massively overrated IMO.
Think about it, muscles approx 25-30% protein, so a kilo of lean muscle is approx 250gm protein (dry weight)...

If I was to put on 12kilos a year, which would be beyond my wildest dreams, that's one kilo a month....250gm protein worth, 10grams a day...
Now realizing that no where near 100% of the protein ingested is converted to muscle tissue, lets say you've stressed your body enough to stimulate some growth, 1 kilo a months worth, and your bodies fkd and can only metabolize 20% of the protein you ingest into muscle, that's still only 50gms a day above maintainence to grow 12 kilos a muscle a year...and who gains that much anyway (26pounds)

I'm not big by any stretch, but have noticed no diff dropping my protein from300-350gm a day to 175-200 (92kg b/w)...I think the importance of protein is massively overstated.

Agree 100%

Throw in about 3-4 tablespoons of fat or a 50-75 grams of carbs (or mix an match to supplement the protein if you are hell bent on getting calories. This stuff is next to nothing costwise especially if you buy bulk in oats, rice, and/or olive oil.

I'd definitely go with the ideal of more protein on rest days just so it can be put to proper use.

drop proteins a slight amount on training days and make up for it with high GI carbs.

i agree with this mind set. 50-75g protein really isn't that much more. i'd think that with a little planning, there has to be a way to finance this small amount.

i buy in bulk when i can, even over the internet. i saved up and just got a great deal on 20lbs of bison the other week. i take advantage of sales. i go to the budget grocery store to get certain things. i get my veggies from a local produce market that beats grocery store prices. if cash is tight, i make due without the extras. i like to drink diet soda, especially now that i'm in diet mode. it keeps my hunger down in the evening. but say i'm short on cash, i can drop that in a heart beat for a pack of ground sirloin or a bag of tilapia. when money is tight, a cheap route to go is egg whites. lately, i've been getting them on sale. $0.98 a dozen. if you found a deal like that, we're talking maybe another $10 or so a week to really load up on protein and maybe even get you beyond your current amount.

oh, and since i live close to my folks, they like to have me over and feed me some nice grilled chicken breast once a week or so. yummmmm ;) the girlfreind's folks like to have us over too. not that i'm running around town looking for a free meal, but hey, they know the life style her and i live and they like to help us out when they can.

dig deep bro. you can make this come together!!

im on unemployment, pay all bills, owe money and such, ive always stuck with chik, eggs, tuna, whey, wheat bread and spegeti, oats and brown rice, grits, olive oil, sometimes i can only afford like 150 g a day of pro, i end up substiting aliitle more carbs for pro, but someone said here protien is more important on the rest day vs. workout day, doesnt seem likely imo, the pwo your body is feening for it more, of course pro is needed on the rest day regardless

I don't really have an answer exactly, but the body builds and recovers on all days, not just the ones you workout on. There might even be more need as stated above on off days.

i've had to decrease protein before, i added a lot of carbs and actually grew a little faster. that was the first time i understood that my body needs carbs to grow. what you're thinking about taking out is minimal, i would just push the carbs a little harder.

I agree with this completely, very good advice. Back to the original question, you do need protein on rest days, that's when the body is recovering and rebuilding the muscles that you broke down during exercise.
