Impressive lifts by Hossein Rezazadeh (the "Iranian Hercules")

* 210 kg (462 lbs) in the snatch
* world record of 263.5 kg (580 lbs) in the clean and jerk
* combined for a world record and gold medal total of 472.5 kg (1042 lbs).

Not my goal to look like this dude, but shit is he strong (I can't get 580 off the floor)

major Drol face lol..i mean those guys are all natural

All natural or not, i cant even deadlift 580 and he cleaned n pressed it. Im fuckin impressed. Iv deaded 5 plates (495) and it was heavier than fuck. I cant imagine cleaning it then pressin it up to arms length. The good olympic lifters are also known for their explosive hips = super jumping ability. Some of these guys are like 5'8 300lbs and can dunk a basketball. Tell me thats not impressive haha.

I saw him take that out. Amazing strength, looked like he could've gone heavier. I can't imagine lifting that above my head either. Impressed the HELL outta me.

He seemed to have a more economincal motion than many, less extreme movements. Maybe that helped. What was his bodyweight, anyone remember? I know it was bloody huge. IronMike

I just don't understand why they do snatch and clean and jerk. You can't even watch a competition where those lifts are performed and not see someone get hurt. It's always something, an elbow snapped backwards, a shoulder dislocated, bar slipping out of hands and falling on the guy. It seems that they could find better lifts that would allow these poor guys to not have to risk their lives at each competition. There's no way in hell I'd attempt to lift really heavy on those lifts. I mean, it's one thing if you're not able to complete a deadlift and you have to drop the weight. But if you can't complete one of these lifts, you're possibly fucked for life.

Anyway, yeah, that's one STRONG ass chubba lub.

Injuries

Hey BBJ....when you think about it there's probably been a helluva lot more blown pecs and quads from bench presses and squats than olympic style lifting. But I believe your point is valid as far as which lifts are more likely to cause serious, more devastating injuries!

Tom

You're probably right about that, Tom. That's why I just quit powerlifting all together. The crap's kind of like bullriding...it's not IF you'll get hurt, it's when.

The fat guy's shirt-isnt that the writing on the top of the Paki sust amps? I need a shirt like that!

I saw a Chinese lifter in a lighter division in the clean and jerk completely blow his back out. He was ended up with Gold but to make sure no one else had any chance of getting near him, he upped the weight quite a bit cos his coach told him too - you know how hardcore some of those coaches are with the Chinese - silver is the first loser etc.

So the bloke's under it and you could see he had nothing and no hope, but he gave it a little too much effort and ended up slumping to the ground, weight nearly pinned him. Had to be helped of stage and was crying it was that bad.

Then the coach, who must also have been a qualified physio (ahem), decided to rub it very vigorously and try and stretch it out... the bloke was crying and screaming and could hardly stand... doubt he'll lift a newspaper again let along a near world record.

I think powerlifting should be included in the games along with the weightlifting - both very popular spectator sports whoever you speak to. Not sure how they'll go with getting bbuilding in there though. IronMike

PS - useless ramble I know

Yep, that's the exact kind of thing I'm talking about, IronMike. It seems a lot of times they just overestimate their body's limits.

I wonder if it would cut down on injuries, if instead of performing 1 rep maxes, they did say 5 reps instead. This would significantly cut down on the amount of weight used, so maybe tendons and joints would be a little better able to tolerate the stress. I don't know, it just seems too dangerous the way it is.
