State of mind & heart is critical to the safety of the "trip".
Whatever you are feeling will be magnified.
In other words, if you're not having a good day, DON'T do LSD.
In fact, LSD is a great drug for clinical treatment of alcoholism.
Don't laugh, in the 60s, the cutting edge pioneers of psychotherapy had great success helping alcoholics overcome their hidden emotional causes of their insatiable need to self medicate with booze.
It wasn't about just handing a guy a couple hits of purple micro-dot & sending him home. It was a totally controlled atmosphere of soothing music, unconditional love & emotional safety where the patients' loved ones were present to help the therapist guide the patient through their own subconscious scars & hidden motives. Patients were guided through their past issues so that they would awake to a self realization of what was really driving them to suppress their pain through alcohol.
I'm not saying that everyone should drop acid, I'm only saying that in the hands of a properly skilled therapist, it can help a person see through their conscious mind & into their subconscious heart to overcome their challenges.
I don't think anyone uses this great tool for that anymore. The liquor lobby probably got the church folks politically activated against LSD enhanced psychotherapy. (can you tell I don't trust people much?)
I can't even explain the feelings and sensations and visuals it gives when " peaking", like nothing you can even imagine. I actually had my senses cross and could taste colors and see music floating thru the air, out in the woods trees would bow down to me and sometimes just melt into a pile before me.
Been there, done that. Okay, you pried it out of me, I hope you're happy! BTW Pink Floyd is my favourite band & this is coming from a guy who also loves CCR, Metallica, Pantera, Tool, Nine Inch Nails, Daftpunk, The Prodigy, Judas Priest, INXS, Slayer, Bob Seger, The Eagles, Stevie Ray Vaugh, Stevie Wonder & a million other awesome artists. Floyd Forever!!!
I never had a bad trip luckily but knew a few high school aquaintances that lost their mind from that shit and are now "gone" and homeless, dead, or institutionalized, you wouldn't believe the stories of how bad these people were affected by it, it is way too strong for most people and I for one would never touch it again nor would I recommend anyone else do.
That's why I emphasized the safety issues. People don't understand how close emotion & spirit actually are. Unlees it's administered by a proper professional psychotherapist (or an old hippie), then I also agree that people should NOT do LSD...
Half the rock bands of the 60's and 70's wrote songs about it or were using it when composing there music and it HEAVILY influenced many bands, most obviously to me was the Beatles later years and Pink Floyd.
Cool post.
I had some pretty intense highs on magic mushrooms years ago, from what I hear a basic dose of mushys are about 1/10 the strength of lsd.
But I seen things levitate, colours were enhanced extremely along with taste and sensation, the greatest feeling I had was coming down, for some reason I always felt down to earth and my mind was set straight about things. It was a very stange feeling its hard to describe but it was like a felt everything was gonna be allright.
I'm 4 years older than my brother and definately a child of the early 70's. Turned my brother onto his first "trip". Took him to see the first Nightmare on Elm Street. He hates movies like that. Ditched him at the theater. I remember the pink, red and orange carpet moving like waves under our feet. He caught up with me later in the parking lot, between the trip, Freddie and me ditching him, he was freaking the fuck out. So I took him to a park in Chicago where we practiced flying elbows ala Macho Man while yelling, "OH YEAH!" Big bothers are great, aren't we?
