No KNEE cartilage

I have a friend who's teenage daughter used to be quite the athlete. Well, after many injuries an operations..another one due this summer she lacks almost all cartilage in one of her knees. Her docs have given her no restrictions so im wondering if any of you trainers have worked with someone liike this and any tips I can give her father?

Are you refering to the meniscus?
It would be bone to bone if they were gone.
