Mods, didn't know where to post this, feel free to move if necassary.

Just putting out the feelers to see if any other members of the iron brotherhood like to make music. I've got a nice vintage 70's Les Paul copy, a half stack, and really crappy recording software. Here's an example of what I was able to create w/ it. I'd like to pursue music more regularly, but when I dive in deep, I tend to be self-destructive to encourage the creative process. Unfortunately, that is an effective way to get inspired. So to keep on the level, I stay in the gym and pursue health, and limit the rocking to 1 day per week.

I am. I was a music composition major at a University down here for 3 years. I was primarily studying to write music for film and tv - movie scores and such. I got to take a few years of jazz guitar lessons while I was at it too. I'm still very active with writing and performing, but I don't want to make a career out of it anymore.

I am a classically trained operatic bass. Mainly do it as a hobby in local groups to stay busy. I studied voice at Berkley in Boston prior to deciding that finance would be more fruitful.

cool, i took a few music appreciation courses, I was happy to learn about classical music, i actually ended up liking it, which suprised me. after learning about it, it became easier to appreciate what went into its creation. i have no musical aspirations other than being able to act on whatever ideas develope in my head and being able to create them so that others can hear them. no desire to play live, make a record etc....i just enjoy chilling out in the study hammering away at whatever progression i'm into at the time until it becomes something. it's a fun process, very theraputic.

Cool! I took voice lessons from a fellow music major, some of you guys are just tooooo talented.

I'm not marshallmadman because I like Eminem. That's my handle because that's my fave amplifier. Say what you will, they are the best, no contest. I have many guitars, many Marshalls, vintage Fender amps, and some other stuff. I am currently caught between metal, and making a move to blues. It's a bitch getting old!

I play a guitar a little. LOL.

I kinda suspected marshallmadman did, as well.

Where you think the "5150" in terryd5150 came from?

:D

i really wish i hadn't started this thread, everyone has better equipment than me......lol, those are some kick ass amps you guys have, I'm a little bit jealous.

I play a few instruments, gigged in bands off and on for almost 10 years, was a music major for awhile until I decided I didn't want to have to mix business and pleasure.

Kid can play the Axe

I vouch for this kid to all the bros here, this kid is a great, great, guitar player. He could easily make a living at it if he chose too. When he was a teenager in highschool he was making money playing in bars (with his parents permission of course) around the North Palm Beach Florida area while other kids his age were bagging groceries or flipping burgers.

And yes I am a little partial to the kid.:)

Drummer here. Played for years and was planning on being a percussion performance major until I decided it would take the passion out of it for me if I forced it to be my job... so now I'm an Economics and Information Systems Management double major haha. But I gigged around my area for a couple years and almost started teaching private lessons. Still play when I can!

nice! ive been playing guitar for the last 10 years...dropped out of school twice to go on tour with a band. next to working out, music is my life!

5150..now THAT is one the badest ass amps ever made.. I was a big fan of the Peavey JSX paired with a mesa recto 4x12 when I played in a metal band.. could reach in the back and crank the little bias knob up a little and get unbelievable sounding gain.. my buddy had a triple recto.. couldnt compare in the heaviness when I boosted the tube bias ever so slightly.. :D

http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&videoid=9920213I have played guitar for about 9 years! I play in a band right now called "Change Of Fate". Influences include Steve Vai, Yngwie Malmsteen, Pantera, Metallica. Here is me playing if you guys want to check it out! Just some arpreggios and speeding picking stuff. It's kind of old, but it's the only vid I have!!:) http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&videoid=10133126

p.s. found another short vid.

I've been playing guitar for about 20 years now.
I was in bands when I was a teenager, then moved to CA to pursue it fully.
I ended up getting into real estate by accident, and that paid a hell of a lot better than paying to play at clubs on Sunset so I "retired" from trying to make a career of it.
Now I play for fun, but I still play a fair amount.

Hey! There he is! I was wondering when you were going to chime in on this thread!

One of the best, yeah. You really have to get into amps above its price range to be able to compete with it.

The one major drawback to it is that it's not very versatile, you're ONLY gonna do rock or metal with it.

If you want a truely versatile amp that sounds good and is also very economical, try a Peavey Classic 50 212. Great amps, IMHO.

I still use a heavily-modded 5150 head for studio work, along with a modded Ampeg VL-1002, a modded Mesa Dual Rec, and a modded Marshall JCM 800 2203.

FJA does GREAT work on amps, I've even seen them make a Peavey Windsor sound like an amp you'd wanna play through, LOL. He can also really tune the shit out of a JSX.

Hint to Papa Van Smack: Musician's Friend has Windsors on sale for like $399 for a half-stack. Buy one and send it to FJA amps. It'll have your tone runnin' with the big dogs for cheap.
