O/T PowerHouse Sucks

Had some fucked up experience with my gym the last year or so. I' used to work at athe powerhouse gym in my hometown for a year or so. Never really got along with the owners as they think they know things about business and what not and they don't know shit. They would just piss members off and run shit into the ground and I'd have to do my best to smooth it out and fix it. This place didn't pay shit $8.50/hr and after a few months cut my commission from 5% to 3%. I've worked in other gyms and did really well, making $12-$20/hr and more co. but not here. So anyhow after a year of battling I get fired/quit over some shit. They ban me from the property and what not. See the owners son out one day a few years later and he says that I should come train there and what not. I do, as it was REAL CHEAP well his wife was the manager, but I guess there getting a divorce so now his parents come back into the picture and there the ones that I had a problem with. Well I'm training the other day and this old bitch walks in and starts giving me shit, then says that she's not happy that I'm there and need to leave or she's calling the police. I basically made her call the police! She owes me my w2's from 2001 and didn't want to refund my contract and I still have 6months left on it. She thought that I'd get scared by the cops and run away. I gave her the phone and told her to call and she made a huge scene, infront of members and all kinds of people. The cops told me that she'd mail me the w2's and the refund check, but haven't got anything yet. Michigan law really doesn't allow for an legal action, but I'm looking for away to "even the score" This place is a dump and myself and many other members have written letters to the dabish's in detroit and they don't do shit. The have kids and infants in there playing on equipment and taking weights from members saying that it's there's and we really can't do anything about it. They would bring there new puppy in and it would shit in the middle of the gym or on mats and stuff like this. It's not very clean, holes and leaking roofs. And some kind of mold in the back room from all this leaking water. It smells like a kitty littler box in there! It's just nasty!

Damn, that place def sounds lousy, I like my Gold's Gym... nice and clean, no kids allowed, no animals, and I go after work at like 7pm so not too many people to be in my way either!!

You should get together with the people you know who also have been wronged and protest. Picket with signs and stuff on the public sidewalk or somewhere nearby. This I believe will definately get your refund expedited and W2 by the way which is actually required by law to be post marked to you by Jan 31. MM

Sorry to hear about your unfortunate experience. I work out at a Powerhouse and have for 12 years now. I've never liked the place -- owner is cheap and creepy and never buys any new equipment and basically abuses the young people who work there. I haven't changed gyms cause I can't stand the dipshits at Bally's or Lifetime. That's about the only other choices I have. So I stay.

Hey Armageddon, I know which one you're talkin' about. From what I hear the place is still dirty as shit, roof leakin', dirty locker rooms. When I was still livin' up there I used to go there to visit my buddy(you probably know who), who also worked there. He says it's still the same stuff there with the owners and he even quit a while back. The place could be a decent gym if they would clean it and fix the damn roof. Which they should've fixed before buying that expensive wall-climber. Not to mention they would only change the tanning bulbs once every 6-8 months. And that one guy Tom that was the manager was a goof.

They just had a meeting with this kid that owns a small gym in a neigboring town. There trying to sell him the equipment. I know there going to try and get a ton of cash for it too and if he does he's stupid! It's over 6 yrs old, in good condition but not well maintained. Plus the leaky roof is dripping on some of the cables and making it rusty. Pads are torn on somethings. People that own this place make me sick as they are also slum lords and own 2 assissted living homes that charge people like $6,000 a month to stay there. I never realized you could rip off old peoples insurance as bad as they do. They're trash

So are they sellin' the equipment and getting new stuff or closing the gym entirely?

The gym is closing entirely or will be soon. I've been talking to a few investors and some otehr people on opening one up. I just have to find a good location or build my own. Not sure which is going to happen. I did find a PRIME spot but the town it's in is $$$ all about cash and tax's are high. Don't think it could survive for long, but you never know. I have the lady that owns the local gymnastics place wanting to rent some space also, so it might work. Who knows. If it could be rented and not bought it might be the way to go cause taxes would be alittle over $15,000 a year. That is crazy to me.
