I'll be changing my diet soon to include considerably more red meat and wanted to know if any of you have eaten range/grass fed beef vs. regular supermarket beef. It is readily available online and the prices for ground beef patties seem more than fair to me. It is free of hormones, antibiotics and other unwanted additives. What are your opinions on eating this rather than supermarket beef? Thanks for the feedback.

oh man! i dont know much about the quality of one over the other (but my gut instinct says range fed would be healthier) but man let me tell you i LOVE the taste of range fed over storebought. my girl's family owns some huge cattle ranches and hunting reserves and whenever we eat some meat from there (cattle or elk mostly) you can just taste the difference. i cant really explain it, but the texture of it, and the actualy taste of the meat itself ismuch better in my opinion.

bumping for more input please

anybody?

Personally, I don't think it will matter much. Cooking the meat is going to destroy pretty much any hormone or antibiotic compounds anyway. As far as preservatives, I am all for them. My theory is if I eat them, they will help perserve me.

If your looking for healthiest way to eat more red meat try buffalo meat. It is a staple in my diet...can not beat the taste.

The meat from grass-fed cattle is very lean, almost as lean as bison or skinless chickbreasts. It also has 2 - 4 times the amount of Omega-3s and 3 - 5 times more CLA.

This bro sounds like he knows what hes talking about.

Range fed and grass fed are pretty much the same thing. Are you reffering to "caged" and "non caged" cows? When a cow is given free range it is allowed to run the ranch or farm. Many farmers do not waste feed on them because the cows have plenty of grass in wich to feed on.

Grass-fed beef not only tastes great, but it has a nutritional profile wich can sometimes be better then caged cows(grain fed). Most caged cows are given antibiotics, growth hormones, and especially have manufactured diets. The one thing in caged cows is the tenderness of the beef. Such is what they do with veal. For a while ranchers were raising their cows inside of pens hoping to bring the quality of the beef up. But they found the quality was not as good as the old fashion "free range grass fed" cows. Grass-fed beef tastes different from grain-finished beef. It has about one-fourth as much fat, so it cooks faster.

So in short, go free range!

I work as a feed sales and marketing manager for a livestock nutrition company and can tell you that it absolutely does not matter! All beef is good and we'll help to make you grow. The only thing that matters is choosing the cut.

Personally you will be spending so much more on this Natural stuff, And Its my personal belief it might be a tad healthier but what are we talking about, you will die at age 83 instead of 84 with the natural crap.

I goto sams club buy 4lbs of sirloin, 4 lbs of Lean Hamburger meat, tons of eggs, some fish, and some NY strip or Rib eye to spice it up. Marinate the hell out of it, Lawrys has season salt and a steak sauce that is out of this world....
