Some guy was doing these one arm row type movements on the smith machine! All he really into too as he had like 3 or 4 ten pound plates and a 5 on each side.

WTF?

you dont know what that exercise does? ....oh god...newbie

I do one arm shrugs sometimes on the smith machine. You stand sideways.

Did he just do one arm? or did he do the other as well?:p

I have not seen that before... Most people at my gym stick to NORMAL movements..not some crazy one arm iso type exercises :D :D :D

Whats wrong with you guys?
youve never done one arm smith machine rows before? :D

I have seen many people do unilateral training in my gym. Some things I see actually make sense and I have invented a couple of my own unilateral movements. But some of the crazy shit I see guys do just leaves me shaking my head and quite amused.

try one arm deadlitfs one day!!! With the bar.

back in the good old days when it was fashionable to have one massive trap, I used to do these old boys every day.

women couldnt get enough of a lopsided guy

Remeber the movie Lady in the water?

The guys that only trained one side of his body. It makes me smile just thinking about it.:D

yeah, always seems to be "that guy" in the gym. the guy with all of his own fucked up exercises who swears by them because of how fucked up and rare they are. It's usually something you can never go heavy on because the movement itself is torquing the fuck out of your back/torso. I dont know when people will ever get it. Bodybuilding/weightlifting is not rocket science, it's weights being pulled and pushed by muscles, contraction, and gravity. Thats pretty much it

I may sound like an idiot for syaing this, BUT who cares. Once you know the movement of the muscle. The way it extends and contracts or flexes. And you have the "plain old standbye movements" down packed. You can take any piece of equipment in the gym and use it for things it was not intended for. (meaning it's normal use) Example, the seated should press machine with the stacking plates in back with the removeable pin. I sometimes find a good weight range for me, Then I stand on the seat (where you were meant to sit and press) grab the two handles and lift it up using my calves. I rotate two legs at a time to one leg calve raises. To me understanding the movement of the muscle is much more important then using the same old piece of equipment for the same tired ass body part every time! Swithcing up machines, finding new ways to hit various muscles on odd piece of equipment is where you will most likely make your best gains. AND it makes it more of both fun and challenging to yourself.

Another example is the T-bar row always found in your gym. Most folks stack plates on it, stand behind the bar and bring the t-bar from the floor to the chest. I like to switch it and stand in front of the bar. And do one arm rows. Side standing. Sort of how dragonfire101 did it. 12 reps on each side. ( got this little trick from an ex con) he told me in the joint there is almost nothing and they have to make due with what they have. And that's what got me to thinking about various exercises and new movements to use.

I was doing a.m. cardio today and about to leave and in comes a guy and I had to laugh to myself.

Carrying a Wall Street Journal, sandals, shirt tucked in to shorts (red on red), drinking coffee from Tim Hortons, ipod with video playing and jumps on the treadmill. In SANDALS no less!

I was losing it!

1 arm movements are very usefull, as you can text message with the other hand during your set.

i am not joking. i am seeing this more and more. it is sick.

If you do one arm movements, just make sure your switch sides periodically otherwise you'll end up like a fiddler crab with one big claw and one little claw

gotta tell you something; been doing this for over 20yrs now, and one way i've learned was by watching and listening. if i was at the gym and saw someone doing something i didnt recognize(unless the guy looked like he was insane) i would ask what muscle the specific exercise worked. kinda like you're doing on here but didnt know if you were being sarcastic or not.
