I don’t have Sleep Apnea but I saw this on YT from a well-known Doc (ENT) in this field who I used follow from time to time for snoring and general sleep help.

Figured I’d pass it along if it can help someone.

Interesting, might look into that. Personally I couldnt sleep with a CPAP so I went to a dentist that made a 3D printed mouth piece to keep my jaw from falling abck.

Personally that shit would annoy me and make my mouth water like crazy. Plus I guarantee it would make me gag.

I ultimately would love to get that Inspire device surgically implanted in me!!!! Im hoping the cost will come down over time and insurance will cover this without me paying a fortune to get one myself.

I’m in Texas..a friend of my wife’s is specialist type dentist who fit me with this mouth piece that stretches out the top of your mouth..looks like a retainer but there is a steel dowel rod that runs through the middle..every month I go in and they put in a fatter dowel rod..

It really works..haven’t used my cpap in a month and my teeth are straightening

What if your teeth are straight is it primarily a ape a that just helps teeth or Vice versa

They do it for a lot of different things..I went in to get off the cpap..the army dentist fucked up 2 of my teeth in the back and they ride on each other so she made the adjustments to fix that as well.

It literally stretches out the palate and gives you slightly different facial features..I have a crushed sinus cavity from over pressure and I am starting to be able to breath out of it a little

That’s good, mean that it’s improving the Navy dentist gave me a gap after removing my wisdom teeth improperly. I got out without a ton of overpressure issues mostly just a lot of frag concussion shit mostly fucked up my ears not my head luckily. I use the CPap religiously and am a mild apnea 12 an hour without it .4-1.5 hourly with it. This dental device, I looked up another from a post on here but I just couldn’t jive the $$$ without knowing more. So this set up works as good as a CPAP basically for good once it’s done or is it a lifetime gig. I’m 280-290 but has apnea at 175 prolly even 150 I know I wake up bihourly going back to USMC recruit training and doc said doesn’t matter if you switched and became 160 marathon runner bc this is more about your neck and throat, I do know this it didn’t happen until we were forced to sleep on our backs at the POA with rifle that’s literally when mine started, now I can’t side sleep, anyway dumped a lot of info just so u have it my question is was it super expensive and did the VA have any fiscal support and it really works. It’s a retainer that goes in and out? I love to hunt and camp and a CPap has made that tougher

Seems to be, TRT induces OSA even though there’s not really conclusive proof. I thought I read somewhere that exogenous Testosterone dosages can build additional tissue in the throat over time.

Some studies say that upon cessation of exogenous testosterone that OSA goes away on its own. Who knows if any of this holds weight, but it’s not gonna stop me from using exogenous testosterone.

I’ll be using a CPAP for life until I’m ashes in a trash can somewhere!

I keep saying I’m going to look into it a little more and see if my insurance covers it. Just never happens though

Make sure you update the forum if you do. I’m not aware of anyone that’s had the implant put in.

Occasionally I feel the need to take a nap. But with OSA a nap is worthless without the CPAP. I’m not gonna go crawl into bed to nap. Would be nice to just drift off on the sofa and actually get a decent nap!!!!

I’m pretty sure someone on here did it.
Yeah it does suck not being able to nap on a plane or a resort pool without people recording the gagging and snoring 😂

I tried out for the inspire, and I was told I didn't qualify. My obstructive apnea is too bad and I have significant central apnea as well. My twin brother did qualify for and get the inspire device. I'll have to see if it helps him.

Very interested in Inspire. Would be great. Mine is pretty severe (regardless of bodyweight, just structure). Love my CPAP but hoping for a nicer alternative.

Wait so if you have severe OSA then you’re automatically not an eligible candidate? Fuck!!!

You happen to know what’s considered severe? Like how many events per hour or do they gauge it another way?

My total episodes are currently over 40 per hour, a good combo of Central and obstructive. And they said that is too severe to qualify for it. That was in utah. I've since moved back to Louisiana, so I'll retest and see if a second opinion helps

Someone here had it done and if I remember their total was as high as mine (50s). Who knows though. I've also heard for very severe it's not a fit.

So with a CPAP you’re still experiencing 40 events per hour?

Look for a dentist in your area that specializes in TMJ (or TMD). At 12 events per hour you would probably be a good candidate for a mouth piece.

*Different from fisther's appliance but worth a shot. I wish I had mine years ago.

That is without the pap. I've never quite adjusted to a cpap. I just got an apap a few months ago, and I haven't used it anymore than I used the standard cpap. My nose is almost always obstructed, so it leaves me mostly mouth breathing on the pap, and that's after surgery for a deviated septum. Before that, I was over 70 episodes. I have tried to avoid taking any sleep meds, so that may be a major culprit in not adjusting to a cpap.
