ive been talking to my friends and this seems to be common, I am very healthy but every morning I seem to get flem and stuffed sinus's I do not smoke nor partake in any other unhealthy habits, is this the bodys natural way of getting rid of free radicals?? I know this question is kind of disgusting but I am just curious. It seems to happen most if i over sleep. just never really paid attention to it.

neti pot

try nasal irrigation with a neti pot. makes a world of difference.

I fight this every winter and have for 20 years. Every winter, i wake up and start hacking, blowing my nose, bringing up loogies, clogged nose etc......I end up getting rid of it about an hour after i wake up. But it is the weather. You have winter alergies. A great thing is nasal saline. Its just nose moisturizer and it works great. I use it throughout the evening and in the morning. It just moisturizes your nasal passage ways. Its not the same as nasal spray that you use when you are sick but it actually works good for that too. But unlike nasal spray, it doesnt contain and chemicals or things like that. Just pure saline.

Yep nasal irrigation works wonders , may take a few days though , i di it every evening in the shower.
I get better results using 75% water and 25% Alkalol , seems to work much better than the salt water. I get mine at the corner pharmacy.

The Alkalol Company

read up on it and see , maybe give it a try

As others have said - try nasal irrigation, saline spray (Ocean=brand name), and others but NOT spray decongestants like Afrin which can make it worse if used for more than a few days.

new pillow

hey-

i spent years working in the mattress industry (hah if people think used car salesman are scammers....you wouldnt believe the bedding industry..but i digress), and this is an incredibly common complaint.

a mattress DOUBLES in weight every 10 years from dust mite droppings. yeah, thats right. DOUBLES. seriously. guess what-pillows follow the same principle.

up until I started working in that industry, i kept my pillows until, well..shit i dont think i ever even bought/threw out pillows. good pillows are supposed to be thrown out every....(drum roll) 3-6 months. GREAT pillows (i.e. high quality latex/memory foam-and not shit generic memory foam-TP quality or higher/etc) maybe a year or two....or three.

change your pillow. most people find that when they do, they wake up with much clearer sinuses. you are essentially burying your head in dust mites every night, over and over, night after night....over time (and the longer you sleep/have your head on the pillow)-the worse its gonna be.

fuck dude you dont have to spend 500 bucks on a pillow, but go to wal-mart pay 10 dollars and see if it helps. if it does, buy a decent pillow, and a dust-mite proof barrier to keep the thing clean.

meh, thats my two cents.

get one of those home mold tests, maybe there is some mold and you are breathing in spores

What he has just said is, your having a reaction to an allergy.
Try taking a Benadryl or Claritin-D 24 hour tab before bed and new pillow is a great idea.

holy wow!! im glad i opened this thread I learned a lot,,,, I love trying to make healthy living a priority in my live... guess its out with the old pillows and pick up some 5 buck pillows at my local store... and yes I am going to try out the neti pot tom I have other friends who have suggested the same thing.. thanks guys!

That Alkalol that Gunsmith posted is the shit. It's rough the first time or so you use it, but it will clear you right out.

I also swithced to a egg based protein mix. Whey(dairy) protein SLAYS me. There's probably a combination of things that may set you off.

Good luck.

I use this mostly because to much salt will dry you out way to much .

It have been around since 1896.
It is OTC ,but for some strange reason that keep it behind the counter at CVS and Walgreen's.

Thats a good point Aeliop. Some people will produce more mucus with dairy products. This combine with the winter allergies will create clogged noses.

allergies and sinus knocked down...

I had this exactly. I'd wake up every morning for months with what i thought was a stuff nosed from allergy or whatever and in the shower it would loosen up and I'd clear it. Be fine for rest of the day. Mentioned it to my doc. He took a peek and said I had a nasal infection. Gave me a 7 day run of antibiotics and it has been cleared ever since. Go see a doc.

Here is a very cheap and effective way to get rid of an infection or any ailment cause by germs or virus in the sinus cavity. Get yourself some 3% hydrogen peroxide and a dropper, put 5 drops in each nostril, it might burn a little when you snort it , do this once in the morning and once at night, if straight up peroxide is too strong, dilute it equal parts with water, but then you gotta do 10 drops in each nostril, I'm telling you that works better than any antibiotic I ever used. Do that and call me in the morning. God bless you bro.

I could perhaps concur to this, although mine was not just in the morning. Through trial and error it became apparant i had become allergic to fish, in particular tinned tuna. This gave me symptons of a real bad hay fever.

I did try other fresh fish but with a certain quantity it still happened. It also was the same with fish oil capsules.

I was told with a food allergy you quit the food for a while and then have a big load of it......I didnt try this.

However, i have since started eating the odd piece of fish again with no effects and also re introduced fish oil capsules and i seem to be over it thank god....:)
