There's this college kid in one of the gyms I go to that was studying for a test. Not sure which class but his study material recommended 0.8 grams of protein per kilo of bodyweight, 6 to 10 grams of carbs and I think .25 grams of fat. So for a 200 pounder that would be 72 grams of protein, 545 to 909 grams of carbs. His instructor aslo said athletes did NOT need additional protein. Lets hear it for academia!!!!! I know not everyone is a bodybuilder so lets say that amount of protein would be ok for the average couch potato but that many carbs would make most anyone FAT.

the epidemic in a textbook

and there you have it folks, another reason for our obesity epidemic in america.

I think you are mistaken on your numbers. I think you may have read it wrong. Can you please quote the source? Do you remember the name of the book? This just sounds so far fetched. You know his study material but not the class name?

And beyond what Philip said, you're looking at the numbers from the perspective of a bodybuilder, not from the eyes of the majority of the population, which is what a textbook would target.

Different lifestyles require different needs, we're the minority here.

i understand phil wanting reference books titles, but even in new zealand, dietitic tuition was recomending aaprox 1.6g pro per kg and between 5-10g carbs per kilo depending on weekly workload of exercise. fat was added only in sufficient amounts to satisfy caloric goals as worked out using their BMR plus an activity multiplier. this was auckland uni no less !!!

the 5g carbs per kg was for SEDENTARY folks!!!!!!!!!!!!
