now this may be kinda stupid but....i remember paul demayo saying in an article he only eats when hungry. but some people say come hell or high water.....eat every 2 hr. so whats the better way to diet? im not hungry all that much so i may only eat like 3 or 4 times a day if i only ate when hungry. so wouldnt that slow my metabolism down? i loike the carb cycle way cuz it make me hungry so on my high carb day i acan eat alll the carbs and not feel too bloated but i am interested in this only eating when hungry stuff, just to know how it works.so whats the final verdict guys???

i know phil advocates this also im just curious as to how it works. its kinda like these guys ive met through my training career who insist as long as they are getting sore they are growing. but science says its not rue. but these guys looked great and kept gaining or looking better and never plataued. like how do the ratios work? phils philosiphy makes sense. demayo and other guys who did this obviously did not loose muscle or ruin their metabolism. so if you do a lot of cardio you will want to eat more. train hard eat more but if you take a day off and arent hungry and dont eat....your metabolism will not slow?

Years of me eating chicken..... makes me not really want it when It comes time to eat it but I love ground beef so put that in front of me and I'm salivating....so basically try and surround yourself with the better tasting healthy foods you can find and you should be more hungry more often during the day. I may be way off but this is how my body functions.
 
Question

1. If you are not hungry, what do you think eating is going to do?
2. If you are not hungry often, are training and doing cardio, do you think something is wrong? I do.
3. Now that we know something is wrong, we need to address it. It is probably(99%) of the time a supplement issue ( cheap powders, bad personal food choices) or training/stress.

I know exactly what you mean.. Its like someone just created more space in your stomach when you see good tasting food lol

What I want you to understand is that hunger is a GOOD SIGN......make yourself hungry. IF you are not hungry, dont eat...... but delve beyond that and see what the problem is. Me telling you to eat 8 meals a day is a terrible injustice to both of us. How do I know 8 meals? If I had it my way, you would need 10! But if you only "need" 5-6, then we got a problem.....that is where I come in and teach you to do things to put you in an anabolic state so you will need more.

i definitely am liking the eat only when hungry kind of diet. Before I was all about just pounding the cals, and eating when it was time to eat, regardless if i was still kind of full from my last meal. All it did was make me feel bloated and my stomach always had pressure on it. I think you have it down, the carb cycling does help a lot to get your metabolism going, but maybe incorporate more cardio, maybe hit cardio if you have a lot of carbs present in your diet, just to boost up your metab a bit more so you are hungry more often.

I think every person is different. We all have different genetics, so what works for Phil isn't going to necessarily work for me. Besides, I thought he used to constantly sip on LBA's. Was he thirsty all the time?
 
I have taken phils advice on eating when hungry. Ive grown a little more in a short amount of time, and have shed a little bit of fat. I eat solid healthy meals when hungry, and sip on a shake when Im not very hungry but need to eat. Before I was making myself eat, thinking I was growing; I was growing alright, growing fat!!! Also after pounding the food down for a length of 2-3 weeks straight, I take one day off of eating. I still get 2-3 meals in, but not enough to make me grow or shrink. For me, this creates a hunger binge that will last another 2-3 weeks. It lets my stomach/intestines empty themselves so that Im ready to get back to it the next day.
 
Phil has taught me to eat only when hungry and that's because your body doesn't have a constant caloric need. i notice that some days, i can barely eat 1700 cals, and others, i can eat 4000 cals and still be hungry.
Though, there are things that will blunt hunger... for me, sugar free chewing gum and coffee just kill my apetite... i try to stay away from that stuff... but i can't :) ... i love coffee, and i don't want my breath to smell bad :p

for the past week (or actually 12 days) i have been eating 2-3 meals... didn't feel like eating at all... didn't lose muscle... lost a bit of weight (2 lbs), no strength loss... nothing changed much... today i woke up fucking HUNGRY!!! i ate abour 2 hours ago, and now i'm starving again... i guess the body just grows in "spurts" or burns fat in "spurts" also... the only way you can know when this is happening is when you actually listen to what it tries to tell you.

ok, now i'm starting to talk out my ass... i need my coffee!!! :D
 
I tried this approach last off-season (eating only when hungry, no force feeding) and stayed super lean all off-season and came into my 2007 shows 20 lbs heavier. There was no need for EXTREME dieting measures as there wasnt much fat accumulation. However, I have heard guys like Massive G, Dante and a few other veterans talk about YOU MUST FORCE FEED to get huge. No if, ands or buts. Huge quantities of food with basic heavy lifting. You will be bloated, gain fat but to reach a new height in size YOU MUST FORCE FEED??? Can you reach and super exceed your size potential ONLY with force feeding for a few off-seasons? Or will you still seek your genetic limit just much more gradual with Phils way of thinking?

I think you are right about peoples genetics..........but that is the only thing I think you are correct about........the other stuff you talked about was just plain idiotic.........what is your point?

personaly i think dc and dante are right if you are skinny and cant gain wt. but lets say you are already 240lb. you are not gonna add 30lb of muscle in a year anymore. so why get fat? i think shifting to phils way at that point makes the most sense. but if you begin lifting and already weigh like 250lb but not lean....then begin with phils way.
