I live in a dorm style living and have to wake up really early at 5 ish. All the other people that live here do not wake up till 9 the earliest. So when I go to sleep there is usually a decent level of noise.

Does any one know of a good product that will block out the noise. I bought some regular ear plugs from walgreens but it didnt help.

Anything to block out the light as well.

I am the worlds lightest sleeper. I sleep with a 4' tall fan about a foot from my head on high. I have slept with a fan for 20 years!!!! THe hum of the fan motor blocks out the outside noise. WOrks like a charm for me.

Any type of white noise.
Fan, humidifier or a white noise machine.
That and melatonin...lots of melatonin

Sleep Aid from trueprotein.com + white noise machine = best combo ever

Get the earplugs that are like plastic putty, not the foam ones. Those work great.

fans, white noise, pitch black room, and/or melatonin.

I've been taking melatonin for the past week to see what effects it would have on me. It literally makes me sleep like a log and not wake up one time throughout the night.

Pick up the carbs before bedtime. Try some jasmine rice. Lite dairy like yogurt. Bowl of cold cereal, oatmeal with honey, a banana, a granola bar. Glass of warm milk. There are so many good things for you right in the kitchen that too many people reach way to fast for some meds.

P.S. I'm going on more then 20years with a box fan 365 days a year at night. Like kscowboy said, drowns out a lot of background noise. I think my dogs hooked on it too! :D

I have this alarm clock made by Homedics that makes various sounds, like rain and a waterfall that's awesome to sleep to. I have also used a fan in the past. I have post traumatic stress disorder, and that makes sleeping difficult, so I also have to use Lunesta, which REALLY helps.

I too have a terrible time sleeping. In my dorm days it was always earplugs and a fan, but I had two really considerate roomates thank god.. Lately it's been my temperature thats been screwing me up. Anything above 69 degrees and I'm itching and sweating. Try cranking the thermostat down if it's cool w your buddies. It's a frustrating problem, good luck.

A fan is a great recommendation, if you didn't want to use a fan... I use this white noise machine and think it's great, I've had it about 6 years

**broken link removed**

For blocking out the light you can get an eye mask - similar to what they give you on international airplane flights - personally I don't like the elastic and think they are too tight so I wrap a thin T-shirt over my eyes b/c I sleep during the day currently.

Melatonin is good, too much can have the opposite effect. When I take 5mg, it's great. 10mg makes me jittery and unable to fall asleep. Start with 5mg, more isn't always better.

I agree with the fan thing too, I can't sleep if it's too quiet. Ambien CR works great for me.
