If you were concerned with what might be found on your hard drive (despite wiping it clean- it can be restored) a netbook might be a good investment. Dumping your computer is completely understandable- but think of all the personal files you lost (years of photo's, papers, etc.).
I would suggest a Netbook used soley for any personal transactions you don't want on your hard drive. They are stripped down and great for pretty much internet only use. They only cost $300, relatively fast, have WiFi. Then, if needed, to trash it wouldn't be that great of a loss.
