I just bought 100% food grade potassium nitrate..



the serving recommendation in pre-workouts is like 400-800mg
I've also seen 500mg potassium suggested in old Mike Arnold pre workout protocols.

You’re not kidding. I have about 5 pre-workouts I rotate and not sure I notice much at all from them. I think it has simply become habitual. I’m gonna instead spend the money on insulin and just take a caffeine pill and stick with my intra-wo drink.

I have a hard time trying convince myself to spend a bunch of money on all these fancy pre workouts when a bottle of novolin r, a gallon of glycerol, some citrulline, Cialis, and a little sea salt is dirt cheap and lasts me months on end and works great!

You got a link to the glycerol you use?

It's a badass formula! I just add a caffeine pill if I want some stim. However, it fell out of favor with me because you can't/shouldn't really use cialis with it(and thats a staple for me eod or e3d) because of the amount of nitrate/nitrite contents in the product.

Heavy or NYMuscle - is there a consensus on if calories from Glycerin are actually absorbed/should be counted for daily macros if being a stickler?

You know....ive heard they don't count....but I find that a bit hard to believe. Offseason I don't think it would make a difference one way or the other. But if I was pre contest, id probably count them to be safe
 
one thing to contemplate in all of this is placebo effect.

one thing i have always tried to do in order to stay objective is take something and forget, or go into it thinking this isnt gone do shit.

pay attention to the time taken and the variable that come into play for effect and... :eek: see what happens.

if you pay for it and it comes in a fancy bottle saying super jacked extreme kill people energy, you WANT to think its "better" then some boring powder tossed in a cup. :lightbulb: lol

I actually have taken off time. In Dec I had 2 weeks off from the gym and any stimulants. I also came off hormones which wasn't planned but when I eat crap and don't train I sometimes do that. It's solely a mental thing for me and not needed. Just something I do. Not a proper break at all but I just injected HCG eod for nearly 4 weeks so it's not like I came off for 6 months :eek::D Now I am on 500mg test c and 400mg mast e with no plans of upping. Although I will add some igf-1 in and slin later on too.

Well to be honest I don't think placebo is present for me at all. I have taken supplements for so many years and conducted numerous experiments I know how I respond to most things. Sure some things don't really illicit a short term reaction and more subtle long term changes (such as aminos through the day). Other supplements (especially health) you don't really feel but may see changes in blood work over time and well we simply hope for the best.

Now for my pre workouts there is definitely no placebo. Most have stimulants in so they are going to work but as my ratings show at different levels. I also have many supplements in plain bags that I know work and I use them pre/intra/post workout. Things like creatine, citrulline malate, glutamine, beta alanine etc.

Fancy packaging is nice but means nothing. The reputation of something also means nothing. I try to start a new pre workout under fairly strict settings so I can judge them fairly. So I will purposely won't change anything such as adding extra citrulline to my intra shake etc.

A good example of reputation would be APS Mesomorph. I recently used that and was expecting/hoping it to be fantastic. Nearly everyone states it's the best pre workout they have used. I have never seen it rated bad and the ingredient list looked great. But I used it many times playing about with timing and it just wasn't great for me. It's loaded so I was obviously going to feel it a lot but was disappointed with it.

Yeah, I *think* I saw JM say the same but included NYM on that as he's pretty much the resident keto expert lol

Muscletech Shatter, SX-7, Black Onyx

I used this for the first time tonight. Very impressed with it. Again some interesting ingredients. The main thing that stands out is the inclusion of adenosine triphosphate. If anyone hasn't used this I fully recommend it. It's a shame the dose isn't higher in this product as I respond great to it. I even rate ATP higher than citrulline malate for pumps. I should add this recommends 2 scoops per serving so 400mg ATP is great.

That's interesting about adenosine triphosphate.

I had been trying one with agmatine sulfate, and I think it gives better pumps than l-citrulline.

Have you ever tried Hemavol? It looks interesting although expensive. No stimulants either which as you know is what I look for.

Its has citrulline, agmatine, and another compound... Norvaline which is supposed to prevent the degradation of arginine via arginase, allowing more to go through the nitric oxide pathway.

I just recommend the sodium version now. It is cheaper and has a higher concentration of nitrate per mg. if someone needs more potassium, they can just take more potassium.
 
Arginine nitrate may be superior as it reduces nitrate tolerance.

Creatine nitrate would be my next choice as it will allow for greater creatine solubility.
