MEDIAL HEAD OF CALVES

so I tried a bunch of different types of calf raises yesterday

tempo, stretch, etc.

no activation of my medial head

NEXT STEP: what type of specialist should I go see?

ART I would think. Maybe grastons. Dry needling should help too If its a nerve innervation issue

I'd go see an ortho surgeon who specializes in sports medicine. Or you could stat with a PT who might advise you better.

ive never had any form of swelling or tenderness in either of my calves... no bruising or anything

so im pretty sure that I didn't tear anything

does anyone know what Dennis Wolf's deal with his calves was?

maybe I have something similar hmmmmmmmm

Dennis Wolf has a gastroc fascia tear on left calf just like I have it looks like, you can find earlier pictures of him where he doesn't have it. The gastroc doesn't have a real tendon it attaches to, it just attaches to the fascia of the soleus before it all goes down the to the achilles. This is one of the most common injuries...

did the tear cause any pain, swelling, bruising, etc.?

does any of that fall under the category of "woo woo"?

No....not really. I think the only one you could maybe call woo woo would be the dry needling. But ive had it done and it helps. Worked literal magic on some lateral epicondylitis I had. Dusty Hanshaw is a big fan as well

Sprinting up hill on a bicycle will really light up your calves. Do that after you have trained them in the gym. Talk about pain! Use a high gear for extra pain.

Send him to someone to waste his money? You go to an ortho because you want surgery not a fix.

Go to a dr that does one of these

Airrosti ( fascial distortion model)
Active Release Treatment

Active release is more science based.

Both mine had bruising and a lot of pain for weeks.

Astym had the best overall effect on my tears, it's perfect for fascia tears like this, if that is what you have. Although it's sounding more and more like a nerve issue, a good PT is still probably your best bet.

yeah I never had any of that lol... sounds awful.

ima go see my primary care doc, and see who he has in his network.

See if there is a neurologist your primary would recommend and have them do a nerve conduction study....

so I tried the calf raises with knees locked... and I really feel like it was hitting the medial head.

completely foreign feeling to me lol..

had to lower the weight ridiculously low, and do em one leg at a time.

im not gonna be gaining any size obvi, since im in such a deficit... but I may as well build up the neural connections for now.

You can still build a tiny bit of size if you have neglected that area for so long. I assume your protein is very high as well. I am starting an intense calf training program for this month. It won't do much but I can only try :D Although I have improved my calves a bit this year. I enjoy training my calves and will be hitting them very hard eod.

Now try forcing your medial head to contract all the way at the top, that is going to be ankle out, heel inward at the top of the movement, keep toes straight ahead. While keeping knees locked. You can also force the arch on your feet to stay contracted at the bottom of the movement for bonus points.

im lookin at my foot. explain in detail how u can have your ankle out, while your heel is in.
its all connected.

More than likely Muscle Activation Therapy is the only thing that will help. You need the muscle to fire/respond, after that occurs there are a lot of great ideas on here on how to grow them. Isometrics are also very good for getting an individual muscle to respond.

Or you could take the Dennis Wolf route lol
