Any experience with glucometer's & test strips?

I am plannng to give slin a try in the near future and looking for info on how to use the glucometer and test strips to be on the safe side.I read between 70-90 suppose to be safe Blood Glucose levels but have not read what levels is time to start popping the glucose tablets and getting a carb/protein shake in shortly thereafter?I noticed the test strips are a little pricey if you check your BG levels very often.I plan to test them about every 20minutes after slin injection for my first run with slin which will be for 4weeks only Post Workout.Once i reach the dose i want which im guessing 8iu and know how my body reacts to it and when to take in carbs and how much would it be safe to discontinue the glucometer & test strips for future cycles and just use them on ocasion?

In all the slin threads, I've never seem mention of a glucometer, so maybe none of the guys here use them.
 
I've used them mosty to see my blood sugar response to certain meals, foods, food combinations etc. They are great when dieting to know how to keep your endo insulin "quiet" to allow your body to stay in a fat burning mode.

You can certainly use one to see how low your blood sugar (bs) drops post insulin injection. I would do as you suggested and keep monitored during the active life of the insulin. I assume you are starting off with fast acting insulin such as humalog?

Once you are more use to slin you can monitor you bs by how you feel and how your body is responding.

When you test. Repete the test twice every time you do it to verify #s, If you get to much of a spread you must do it a third time. You will only be doing these test at the begining as you use slin you will develope a feel for where you are with it. pinning at 70 to 90 is OK if this is after workout recovery slin. Most folks will feel symptoms in the 50s to high 40s. After you pin weight ten minutes and drink your carbs and protien with glute and BCAA at a 10/1 per IU ratio. 30 min after pinning I would check the blood. If for some reason you feel your dropping too fast drink a full glass of OJ,HighC,Coke,Pepsi,DRINK IT! No diet stuff. Wait ten to fifteen minutes and check again. It take a few minutes for any changes to get into the blood count. So checking to soon would give you a faults read. Starting with low IUs will keep it boring. Boring is good. These are just my oppinions and not absolute fact.

Actually humulin R since its available without a rx unless i get lucky and run across humalog before i buy the humulin.Much rather have humalog.

I always recomend R over log as it's much more predictable.
