Apres cycle - what kind of workout ?

Hi All

Well, I finally took the plunge & am mid way through my first cycle - oral only !! 60mg of Var a day. I know you guys shun oral only cycles but it was just something I needed to do...

The results so far have been astounding - gained 10lbs in weight but carrying less fat than before. This has given me the confidence to go for a second 'real' cycle.

I have to thank the people on this Forum for their advice on training on tendonitis. Training each bodypart once a week & heavy was counter-intuitive but it sure as hell works. All tendon pain has gone away yet the weights I am lifting are far heavier - who'd have thought it, eh ? I could bloody cry when I look at the year of pain & setbacks I endured just because I was following the advice of bodybuilding magazines & routinely fcuking over-training. A**holes.

So now to the question - when I come off in about 4 weeks, I'm going to take a week off training. When I get back into training, I want to keep my gains (I'll be on PCT too) - but I'm going to get stale if I keep following the same kind of program aren't I ?

Any thoughts on the next type of training I should be doing ? High-reps, supersets, circuit training etc. Is it OK to bring in some aerobics now ?

My goal here is mostly to keep gains & keep it interesting. Cutting up a little (from my present 15-18% bodyfat) is an option but not at the expense of muslce-loss.

Also - can I start eating regular amounts when I come off ? I'm bloody sick of food at the moment. I intend to have a week off chicken too....

Any advice would be very much appreciated.

Cheers

Pedro

10lb is FAR FROM ASTOUNDING. If you say you're eating more now (you said this below), those gains just could have easily been done with just food. The only REAL cycle is gonna be your first and you blew it on that accord. You'll see what I mean - you'll do test and a couple of other things with it and gains won't be as good as your 1st cycle. When your body has "virgin" receptors is when it's gonna respond THE BEST.

You need to train "smart," not take a break. Anavar really increase my strength so when I come off I just have to mentally adjust to using "less weight" in my exercises. You need to stay consistent with both training and nutrition. Why do you think you deserve "a break?"

Why weren't you doing aerobics all along? Is your body an Ectomorph? I really doubt that at 15-17% BF

IMHO - you were too fat to start using 'roids. I always suggest to people that the get into at least the 10 to 12% (preferablly 10) BF range. I was under 8% when I started. At 15-18% you can't really tell how much gain was LBM.

Also - can I start eating regular amounts when I come off ? I'm bloody sick of food at the moment. I intend to have a week off chicken too....

It seems like YOU HAVEN'T a CLUE. The SECRET/KEY to bodybuilding is NUTRITION. That's how you got in the 15-18% BF range because you don't know how to eat properly. You should have learned, got a geed level of knowledge AND practice with both NUTRITION and workout programs.

Any advice would be very much appreciated.

Your actions are like how so many people think. I just take 'roids then worry about everything later. It DOESN'T WORK THAT WAY - you need to learn Nutrition, How to Workout AND REST, then learn supplement. You can actually "learn everything" along the way, but you don't practice supplementation until you've got the other elements down pat.

Cheers

I really didn't mean to beat you up. You just managed to hear only what you wanted to hear up until this point.

I'm 4 weeks into my Var cycle. 4 weeks, adding 10lbs with lower bodyfat is EXACTLY what I wanted. What I also wanted was to be on a cycle where I could back off immediately if I suffered from sides. I have been monitoring kidney, cholesterol, liver values, bp on a weekly basis. I'm 35, have had some health problems in the past and needed to dip my toes in the water. If that means slower gains later - fair enough. It's my body my health we are discussing here.

The only advantage of ORALS as I see it is that they can be stopped & out of your system in a few days. As for the next cycle not giving the same gains - I have no problem with this at all.

A break = 1 week off training. I am a firm beleiver in taking a break from training ever couple of months to give the joints a rest. I beleive this is in line with Big A's advice in growth principles for beginners. When I have done this in the past, I have ALWAYS come back from the week STRONGER. This works for me.

Any thoughts on the next type of training I should be doing ? High-reps, supersets, circuit training etc. Is it OK to bring in some aerobics now ?

Fair question. At 33, I went through detox after grappling with alchohol for a while. I ended up having knee surgery too to fix problems caused by the extra weight I was carrying combined with no exercise. My physio - an ex-olympic runner got me into the gym & taught me about nutrition & exercise. I lost a total of 50lbs in fat on a high-protein, 6 meals a day, low GI carb diet. Don't tell me I know nothing of nutrition here, dude.I wouldn't have got this far without some knowledge. I am a typical endomorph by nature. I gave up aerobics because all of the research I have done tells me that for maximum muscle gain - training of all types must be kept to a minimum. My routine has followed Big A's 'growth principles for beginners'. My aerobics has been cut back 'cause I'm hearing it needs to be cut back for maximum muscle gain. The aerobics have only been cut back for the last 4 weeks on Var. Not a big deal I think.

As an aside - my resting heartbeat is 47bpm, I can run for an hour, cycle 50 miles at a time & I live in Thailand, which makes it pretty hot work - so I'm pretty fit. BUT this kind of activity is not what got rid of the fat in my experience. Diet far outweighs aerobics for weight loss. It is aerobics impact on muscle development that has made me stop.

As for bodyfat 15%-18% - that's a guess. I have a 4-pack ! Top 2 rows of abs defined but not the lower row.

I hear what you are saying - the problem is that I was pretty happy with my bodyfat % (whatever it is/was) - I was also having trouble losing bodyfat and adding muscle at the same time - I was getting strong but not big. My choice at this point in my journey was to add some mass before attempting to reduce bodyfat further.

Also - can I start eating regular amounts when I come off ? I'm bloody sick of food at the moment. I intend to have a week off chicken too....

No - I got to the bodfyat I was at by losing weight :D :D.

I am VERY happy with the way I look now. I will do another cycle but will wait a long time before that - I will completely detox first. The next cycle will be next year & completely depends on the bloodwork I'll get first.
My goals between now and then are:
- Keep the training interesting
- Re-introduce the aerobics that I enjoy
- Maintain current body composition (reduced bodyfat would be nice but not at the expense of lean muscle mass - this can come later)

Any advice would be very much appreciated.

Well, I have to disagree with that - I have come so far in the past few years - my family, friends & the people at they gym cannot beleive the change in my body, lifestyle & energy. It's not been easy - getting out of addiction never is. I am not going to get psychologically addicted to 'roids at this point - so I am making myself happy with where I am now. I want to stay there for a while. I am looking to not go backwards & looking for advice from the people on this forum for the pitfalls & mistakes to avoid off-cycle to maintain the gains. Also what to do to keep training interesting without over-training/losing mass.

For instance - could I realistically expect to maintain my gains by circuit training 5 days a week ? I can find lots of info on mass gain & weight loss but there ain't that much on maintenance....

Cheers

Pedro
