Sigh...
I take 20,000iu of Vitamin D a day since late June when I originally went back to work. For a couple months before that(when covid was starting to get serious--so march) I was taking 50,000iu once a week just for kicks because I was going to get blood tests on it. I never did and then I changed my protocol. I heard Dr. Serrano say he takes 20,000iu daily so I implemented it. Through reasoning regarding my own prior bloodwork (which includes a baseline of 19.6, 5000iu dose =45, 10,000iu dose=64) I decided it was not dumb or dangerous and probably much to my advantage.
After 3 full months, I tested at 84.9.
I will test again before the end of the year. I am still on that dose. I did add 500mg/d Magnesium so we should see an increase in D levels I'd imagine. With this virus and the winter coming, I don't think there is anything wrong with people taking 10,000iu and many times more. I forgot what Serrano said in the video I saw, but he basically said if he came down with covid..or a family member did, he said something crazy like 350,000iu a day or week over 2 weeks and 100,000iu of vitamin A.
He has patients that take 80mg melatonin daily and 150,000iu of vitamin D.
Nothuman, you are my boy but I think you are out of line saying it's dangerous..especially in times like these. I have never heard of it causing a magnesium deficiency..only that Magnesium, Boron and Zinc can make D rise. Now should everyone take 20,000iu of vitamin D? No probably not..but a vast majority of healthy people properly applying a large dose would probably be better off these days.
5,000iu is barely anything and 8,000iu has been talked about (I believe in the US and Europe) as a possible new guideline.
People should take Vitamin K2 with it(specifically MK-7) if they do not have any clotting issues and aren't on blood thinners. Magnesium Glycinate and L-threonate would be a great sidekick and most of us know Borons role in prostate and bone health, as well as free test. Everyone should probably be on 30-60mg of a high quality zinc like picolinate as well with quercetin(EMIQ or Quercefit if possible), egcg, curcumin etc. 200mcg Selenium too. I also choose to use Vitamin A, NAC, C, Saccharomyces Boulardii religously and a couple others for health and immunity.
Too much Vitamin D isn't the problem...too little is. Be aggressive and be intelligent about it and check your levels and you should be in far better shape than adhering to some cautious dogma of only 2k or 5kiu.
Obviously, if you live below Atlanta and are out in the sun a lot..you will likely have higher levels of Vitamin D.
Good post. How much vitamin K are you running with your Vitamin D?
