Phil and I did not actually train alot together but I did observe him training on many occasions. He got quite a few of my gym member's on his program with great success.Back then I believe his workouts were very short and he trained each body part like 3x per week..I tell ya it worked great for him and for a number of his clients.Phil had a great following up in the Northwest and his physique was one of the very best I have seen period..Not too many people gave me the "shock and awe" syndrome
but Phil was one of them.
I have'nt talked to Phil in years in person about his training style now and if has changed or not.I have no doubts though if he wanted to get back competing again he could do well in the top pro ranks.
On my training,
it has not changed drastically over the years and my guess it would be more mainstream on this board .I train each body part 1x per week and I only average 2 sets each on smaller body parts with roughly 3-4 exercises. On legs and back I go a bit higher and I average 4 -5 exercises with 2-3 sets each.I usually train on a 2 day on /one day off then 3 day on /one day off .So getting 2 rest days per week.
I train heavy but not so heavy I jepordize form or feeling the weight and the muscle group I am training.I really get into the muscle I am training.
As I get older I seem to try to spend less time training and more time with nutrition.
On nutrition,
I try to stay 8-10% bf year around so my diet is pretty good.My protein currently averages about 500 grams per day with roughly 400-600 grams of carbs.I am a steak man and eat at least 2 lean beef meals per day and usually 2 chicken meals & rest in shakes.I average 5-6 meals/shakes per day.
My carb sources are rice, potatoes, yams, and a mixture of fruit and vegetables.
Phil got me hooked on rice milk and I still drink it..lol.
You still drink rice milk Phil?
I am not sure what Phil is advocating nutrition wise nowadays but what I do remember on Phil is he went to the grocery store every day..lol.
Hopefully Phil and I will get together for a reunion soon and compare notes and catch up after more then 11-12 years of not seeing each other.
We shared alot of goodtimes and laughs back then.
Edge ,
thanks for sharing a bit of your world with me in private and I think you and I have lot's of similarities in life with being family men ,etc.Be great to meet you sometime in the future and get to know each other and compare notes.
Train hard everyone and take care of your loved ones,
Brad
