get ALL your protein from powders and maintain all your muscle mass while dieting?

i'm talking about a high quality protein from true protein or something like a mix of whey/egg and casein proteins.

obviously protein powders don't fill you up and are lacking in nutrients like other whole food protein sources, but assuming you are fine with the controlling the hunger and you supplement with a good multi, fiber, and greens supplement....

THEN WHY NOT?

people always say that whole food is what preserves the muscle when dieting? but whats the difference if your getting all your protein in? isn't protein, well protein?

would like to hear your opinions. thanks.
 
no one will be able to give you this answer because i don't believe there is one that says unconditionaly whole foods are a better protein source than powders.

some powders are as complete as whole foods when it comes to suppling the body with a protien source for the utilisation of building muscle.

the only 2 drawbacks to using powders i find come pre- contest, being the thermogenic effect whole foods supply, and the feeling of being fed from having consumed a whole food meal.

other than that protins powder is as good as whole foods imo.

i could see the arguement being in favour of whole foods say 20-30 years ago when powders were not as complete as they are today.

i'd be interested if someone could debate otherwise, and show exactly why.

What research? I believe all evidence is anecdotal.

your body digests protien into amino acids and they are transported to the vaious tissues where they are needed. your body does not know whether the protein came from a shake or a chicken breast. 300 grams of protein from shakes or steaks should be processed the same after digestion.

the body works with protein all the same like he said your body dosent know if it came from a shake or some sort of meat. try switching up your protien shake if you see the same deminishing affects. but NLarge2 is a good shake if you switch
 
what about the 5 grams of sugars in LBA's that is why I stopped taken them when dieting, afraid of getting in to many carbs. I cant taken in carbs when I diet or I will not lose fat no matter what.

Researching how human digestion works, the evidence is fact all protein is broken down the same way. Any protein that enters the stomach is broken down the same way, whether it's a piece of steak or protein powder. Nothing anecdotal about that.

Again the only real difference would be in the thermic effect of the whole food and the satiety level. It's all the same after that. That's what I'm doing now for protein. I only have powder and the rest of my diet if fruits and veggies.
 
LBAs IS PRETTY MUCH ALL I USE.

Are you saying you get the get most of your daily protein from LBA's?

Damn that reminds me I need to get some more...will hit you up later!
 
I know Dave Palumbo says theoretically you can do shakes, but I'm sure I would stay hungry, but I also would find it tough to get 300-400 grams without the shakes. Just keep the metamucil going(sugar free of course)
 
I would literally eat my hands off to stumps. ;)
 
The best shape I was ever in is when I was in my early 20's and knew "nothing" about nutrition; my diet was protein shakes, bananas,and peanut butter. When I got hungry I would drink a diet soda. I think the 5 or 6 thermadrene tabs I took a day may have helped a little with hunger pains as well!
 
With latest consumer reports indicating many supplements failing to meet label claims, i wouldnt put too much trust in protein shakes, at least not so much to replace regular food with them

I don't think your bowel movements would be too pleasant if you were taking nothing but shakes. In fact, I think you may get pain due to shrinkage of internal things like bowel sphincters or something, I remember a biology major advised me against it because of this reason, but I can't remember now. I prefer shakes to eating anyway because I'm a lazy slob!
 
I get the majority of my protein from LBA's as well, and I have never been bigger.

YOU NEED TO LEARN HOW TO READE A LABEL. IT IS A SUGAR ESTER FROM GLYCEROL......HOW MANY TIMES MUST WE KEEP REPEATING THIS? I WORRY ABOUT THESE THEORIES YOU GUYS KEEP PULLING OUT OF YOUR ASSES, AHHAHAHAAA
 
so I can taken in for example 10 tablespoons a day of LBA and not worry about the sugar ester stopping my ketoisis fat burning? I am not trying to be a ass just bought a case from Phil and thought I could not take them while doing a zero carb diet.

i hear ya.

but part of the assumption is that the label claims are correct. plus i would imagine trueprotein (and a handful of others) would be a safe choice, as far as quality and knowing they don't cut their powders with crap to make it taste better and cut costs.
